Jobseekers allowance after Maternity

    Hi Folks,

My wife has been working for the same company for 5+ years - she went on maternity a few months ago. She has decided not to return to this job when her maternity is up. Her boss is ok with this. She plans on taking an additional few months off (after the 6 months).

Is she entitled to go straight on to jobseekers allowance? She has never been on it before (not that that's much relevance). Or is there any other 'allowances' she could get?

I couldn't find much info online. Any input would be great :)

Will she be getting a P45?

If your wife chooses not to return to employment after maternity leave them she will probably be disqualified from Jobseekers for 9 weeks as she is not Jobseeking.
There are no other payments she can claim.
Even when the 9 weeks have passed she may have trouble proving that she is "available" for work.
Depending on your number of children and your weekly income and hours worked you may qualify for FIS

    Hi MP22,

    Yes she will.

    What's the importance with that?

    Thanks

We have 1 child. What's FIS?

So, if she went back to work for a month and then quit.. would she then be entitled to Jobseekers allowance?

    Thanks

P45 usually means you are out the door, or moving from one job to another.

FIS is Family Income Supplement. Do a search for it on www.welfare.ie

Doubt it as she wouldn't be 'actively seeking work'.
Also, Jobseekers Allowance is means tested so you may not even qualify for it based on your income and any savings.

If she leaves work of her own accord she can be disqualified for up to nine weeks. If she is not available or looking for full time work then she can be disqualified indefinetly.

Get p45 and claim for job seekers benefit for 9 months. Not means tested end of. No 9 weeks disqualification.

This is completely untrue. No matter whether you are claiming JSB or JSA is you leave of your own accord you can be disqualified for up to 9 weeks. And if you are not available or looking for full time work you can be disqualified indefinetly on jsa and jsb.

No it's not completely untrue. People leave for different reasons. There is no black and white. You explain your case. You can claim your stamps. So it's not completely untrue. You CAN be disqualified but not always. If she wants she can claim disability Benefit and use those stamps too.
I mean really are you available for work? Yes I am. Have you proof. Oh yes here are some emails I sent out looking for jobs. Job done.

OP has given no indication his wife has a disability, so why would she claim disability benefit?
