This probably sounds like a waste of a subtank but I have 2 subtank Mini's,I have 1.6 coils in each of the rba's and run them at somewhere between 8 and 13 watts depending on the juice on the smallest air flow setting, perfect flavour and vape for me and better than any other tank that I've used so far.
Found the 1.2 very harsh and couldn't master direct to lung hits without nearly choking myself but the versatility of the tank and the ease of rebuilds makes it my favourite above everything else at the moment anyway.

    Certainly nt a waste
I'll soon have 5 mini's. I haven't even touched the coil heads that came with the 3 I have. I used to use kayfun lites but always thought the airflow was lacking for me. The subtanks are the perfect replacement. I build at 1.5 and run at 16w on second air position. I know these tanks are built for .5 ohm and 21 gigawatts but I'm happy using them as a nice rta that doesn't dry hit or restrict my inhale to much.

I've taken mine out of service at the moment, liquid is seeping past the bottom o-ring.
Might use the spare 'top' o-ring there instead.
    Anyone have similar issues?
The bottom o-ring is much thinner and I don't see why they went with it.

No issues with either of mine and I give them a lot of use. If your vendor warranty is expired don't forget your PayPal warranty which is good for 180 days from purchase date, provided you used PayPal of course.

Not sure I'd rma the tank because of one cr@ppy o-ring, which I feel is a design flaw rather than a failure.
I'll try swapping it out first.
Tank itself is pretty amazing, though I find the drip tip a bit wiggly, they could have done a better job on those o-rings too.

I've found these very useful for my rebuildables as o rings seem to be a weak point on them. Not all of them are useful but when they fit they're great because they're very thick and strong.

Anyone know where I can get a glass tank? I've hardly used the bloody thing and already broken it, 2nd one broke when I was taking it off to clean it, they're very fragile.

How is everyone using the RBA, I find it just gives a horrible harsh flavour when I build it like the coil that comes with it. Has anyone gotten standard micro/macro coils to work or is everyone using Riptrippers method? Yes I'm keeping the edges of the wick away from the holes...

I've watched a lot of videos, tried it at least 5 times and every time is crap, very confused (and I've a lot of experience with rebuildables).

When your putting the cotton in, peel offla thin layer from either side so it isn't too compact. Then cut it on the long side after the outer ring is on.

Use a tooth pick to stuff the wick in to place, soak it and then use the tooth pick to make sure there is space around the two holes.

    That's what worked for me.

Oh yeah, the drip tip is crap, it keeps falling off so I'm using one from an evod glass at the moment.

Love the subtank. Never use the nautilaus or kayfun now. The rba is difficult to build . Keep getting dry hits on long lung inhales. Rebuilding on the occ coils is much easier and really good . The stock coils last a long time too. Really pleased with it

My subtank leaks a little too. I warapped an elastic band around the base (where the glass meets the base).

Not ideal but i have read many reports about this issue.

Great little tank apart from that (got to love the huge 0-ring on the aspire range that never leaks)

Yeah, never leaked a single drop.
Its big and ugly (the o-ring), but it works flawlessly.

I don't know of any but I was just saying to my local vendor on Tuesday that given it was one of the best selling tanks for a while you would imagine that it would be easier to get spares . I suppose it's better for them if you buy the whole tank .

I just rebuilt the rba section and I kept getting the atomiser short message on my istick.

I spent ages fiddling with the coil etc but it turned out to be the tail not being cut close enough to the screw. There is very little clearance once the case is put on, so if the wire is not cut nice and close to the posts, it touches the outer wall and causes a short.

I thought this might help someone

I wrap the wire round the screw so it points in towards the coil and then snip. started doing this after i had the same issue as yourself. It also means you can screw down a lot tighter.

Yes. It's ok, but the Japanese stuff is better.

I'm using the Fibre Freaks cotton and it is the best I've used. Ok, it's more expensive than the boots stuff, but you're talking 6euro for three months supply, or 3euro. Pennies in the grand scheme of things.

can you just walk in and buy that "Fiber Freaks" in a shop Fred?

Was vaping on the .5 OCC most of yesterday and it's great but the flavour was nowhere near the kayfun/taifun/droppers I've been using. I wicked the coil that came ready made in the RBA and the flavour is so much better! Has anyone had a similar experience? Airflow is slightly reduced but I don't mind that. Mouth to lung hits are easy too so it's a fairly diverse tank.

Yeah I find the stock coils a bit harsh whereas the rba gives a much more flavoursome and softer vape, great tank though.

What type of tank do you intend to put your coils into?
An istick mini is only capable of 10 watts which isn't really enough power to light up the tanks that you can rebuild on.

Same as this but the the pipe inside the tank just runs straight from the top to the bottom :

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 635 ✭✭✭Dr Bill

They aren't suitable for rebuilding, buy the replacement coils,it'll be safer.
If you have an interest in building your own coils then maybe check you tube for tutorials, some very good stuff there.
    You'll need a better battery also,maybe an istick 30w.

Yeah, this thread is for the Kanger Sub Ohm Tanks only,as you are here, the 2 videos below show you 2 different type of coils being made, but both come out around 1.7 & 1.8 coils.
The first video uses 29 gauge with 11 wraps....1.8ohm & the second video uses 32 gauge with 5 wraps.....1.7ohm.Take your pick, the istick mini will work on these coils,me personally,I would need 11 or 12 watts to run a 1.8 to get a satisfying vape,as your mini only goes up to 10watts,it might be ok for you,as Dr.Bill has said, get yourself an istick 30w,you can't go wrong with a 30w istick, later on,you may decide to sub ohm & the istick 30w will do nicely for most of the coils you will use.
    Hope this helps...

Anyone tried the Subtank Plus ?
Got one the other day but haven't tried it yet, it's a bit of a beast at 7ml so I think it will be confined to office duty rather than out and about

Love the plus. It is a beast alright. Prefer it to the mini though. Have it on the kbox. Looks good on that

Filled mine up to try again today and 30min later i had a juice covered mod :( might try some replacement seals

My first .5 Subtank coil went up in smoke today, had it on a Mech, smoke came out of the AFC & the mod started to warm up,I knew it was a short before I opened it as I have had plenty of Mechs warm up like that before but never had smoke coming from it before,I've had batteries vent on me but not with actual smoke.
Tried to screw out the coil but it collapsed before it came out all the way leaving the 510 pin in the base, the insulator was burned to fukc,so I reckon the insulator just gave up & the coil legs shorted it out & caused the melt down of the insulator which then caused the cotton to ignite.
Changed out the coil & working great again.

Jeebus, I've never had that happen before, or battery venting for that matter.

Never happened to me either thankfully but I love the clean simple workings of mech mods. They do require a bit more care as regards your batteries and coils but its worth it imo.

I agree,I have 4 favourite tube type ones that I use & not much of a voltage drop with them,I use a Kato clone with my Delta II & a couple of Slugs with drippers & the rest are all regulated.
I still use the ole Kicks sometimes if I put a Nautilus or something similar on a mech, depends if I have spare liquid to use,I'd rather vape it than dump it.

I'd rather vape it than dump it.

Thats a kinda mantra that i've been using about a particular juice, Cosmic Fog Nutz, at 19.50 a bottle I'm gonna stick with it till its gone, however putrid it tastes.
