Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Ive got an IPhone 4 with a broken screen. Im thinking about replacing it myself using a kit. Is this a good idea? Any recommendations on where to get a good kit?

iPhone 4 screens these days are cheap enough to get done in repair centres (about €30-€50) so I'd probably go down that route just to be sure its done right and you don't cause any bigger problems.

With saying that it can be done yourself but just be careful to get decent parts as there are many rubbish parts being sold on ebay etc that just dont work or wont work for long.

    ebay is your best bet.

It's a very easy fix, just follow guide. Also maybe get one of these http://www.fentrader.com/images/24_baking_tray.jpg and keep the screws in order that you take them out.

I've replaced the screen on an iPhone 4. Parts cost €25 off ebay.

I found it a bit fiddly, given that you have to take nearly every other component out to get the screen out, but not that difficult, provided you give yourself time to do the repair, and lay out the parts as you disassemble them so as to be able to reassemble them in the correct order. Best to follow a guide

One or two got ya's were the ribbon cable that connects the screen, this needs to be threaded through the frame and care needs to be taken not to tear it. Also in general the flex circuits are fairly delicate and you need to be careful not to damage them, I ended up replacing the home button as I tore the connector while removing the old screen. Now the replacement was only €5 so it wasn't a biggie, but it meant I had to use the virtual home button while waiting for the part to arrive and I had to gut the phone a second time to repair the button.

If you can get it done for €30-40 then it's probably not worth the hassle of doing it yourself, unless you're into that sort of thing

Ridiculously simple. Bough replacement by on eBay.

Really? I was looking at Ebay and it seems like a mine field to me. screen only starts at 99cent - mid 20 euro kits. Some of the 20 euro kits also differ greatly.
Then I looked at videos on Youtube and it seems you have to go in through the back. So id have to go through the camera, Wifi, Speaker etc. Basically lots of nice delicate stuff that would leave the phone useless if broke.
Id give anything a shot really, Ive changed the screen and keyboard on my computer in the past but I think changing an IPhone screen is a step up.
