In 1783, Crimea became a part of the Russian Empire Following the Russian Revolution of 1917, Crimea became an autonomous republic within the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic in the USSR.

300 years it belonged to Russia.

With the collapse of the Soviet Union, Ukraine was formed as an independent state in 1991 and most of the peninsula was reorganized as the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

Even after the collapse of the Soviet Union Ukraine recognised Crimea special status.

Autonomous but still part of the Ukraine. Even russia recognised Ukrainian sovereignty over crimea as part of the 1997 Treaty of Friendship.

so Crimea was never Ukraine sovereign territory? you said as much yourself that it was. Now it is not. What changed was the invasion of russian troops.

The Russian personnel were already in Crimea, there was no invasion, not a shot fired. The vast majority of Crimean people approve of the correction of the mistake that saw Crimea become part of the Ukrainian SSR.

I recognise the Crimean people right to decide who they are ruled by. Clearly, the majority of Crimeans want to be ruled by Russia. So no I don't recognise Crimea belonging to Ukraine.
Beyond the obvious, you realise you're saying that we (Ireland) should invade and annex South Armagh tomorrow?

And how come you can't provide the full, in-depth details needed for Navalny's trial?

they were already in Sevastopol in the navy base where they were supposed to remain. they seemed to forget that and decided to take over the rest of crimea. Or perhaps they just got lost. Or perhaps they were just on holiday.

All treaties are null and void when people with neo-fascist ideology are involved in (coup d'etat) in Ukraine.

We recognise the Northern Ireland people right to self-determination. Same as in Crimea the majority wanted a return of Crimea to Russia.

international law would disagree with you on that. A change of government does not make treaties null and void.

Can the Putin supporters try naming three bad things they disagree with that Putin has ever done?

    Just out of interest.

    1. Being very slow to invade foreign countries that we disagree with.
    2. Being very slow to imprison his political opponents. there are still some walking the streets.
    3. Waiting 8 years to ill Skripal. I mean, seriously.

We recognise the Northern Ireland people right to self-determination. Same as in Crimea the majority want to return to Russia rule and control.
So what you are saying is we (Rep. Ireland) should do is invade Northern Ireland and then after we have invaded it and filled it with military units, we should run a referendum. But invade it first.

    That's absolutely absurd.

Rep of Ireland has never had troops in Northern Ireland. So what you even saying? Russia has a naval base in Crimea they have always been there they never left.

Were they supposed to remain in base when Crimean people demanded protection and made it clear that they did not want to be under the thumb of the newly installed Ukranian regime that was put in place after the western backed coup. A regime that was/is openly hostile towards Crimeans and Russians in general. Crimean reunification with Russia would have happened regardless, it just happened sooner as a result of the coup.

It is funny how those who wax lyrical about Ukraines territorial integrity are very silent when it comes to talking about territorial integrity in places like Iraq or Afghanistan. No doubt they dismiss that as America and its sidekicks handing out slices of mums freedom pie, so simplistic is their world view.

You have no idea what my feelings are on the invasion of iraq and afghanistan. for you there are only two types of people in the world, those who are pro-america and those who are pro-russia. You lack nuance.

Skipral no evidence Russia killed him

Political opponents imprisoned rubbish 77 people ran for Russian President in 2018

Russian foreign wars. So far Putin wars involve fighting Jihadists and Isis in Syria, and Chechnya. Protecting Russia citizens in Crimea and Georgia.

They came in in droves as they were annexing the place. Ireland should do the same. Then we can have a referendum afterwards, but first we bring in the troops[/s]... err sorry, first we organise a big holiday for our troops right up on the border. Yeah, that sounds better. More believable. Let's go with that.

Good to see you accept at this point that Navalny's trial was a sham due to not meeting your own standards of required evidence by the way.

Given that it wasn't directed at gail who was being sarcastic and was directed at you and others, your response is comical. Care to point out three bad things about Putin that you disagree with?

The Navalny brothers stand accused of having embezzled 55 million rubles ($1.7 million) and illegally laundering money obtained through the transport of Yves Rocher Vostok goods.

In December 2012, the Investigative Committee described the charges pending against the Navalny brothers as follows: "Oleg and Alexei Navalny embezzled over 55 million rubles from a trade company... In order to legalize the illegally obtained funds, the Navalny brothers transferred over 19 million rubles ($587,415) under false pretexts from a fly-by-night company to an account belonging to the Kobyakovo Willow Weaving Factory, which was also founded by the brothers."

Over time, information surfaced that the trade company is being referred to the Russian operation of the French cosmetic giant Yves Rocher.

Alexei Navalny was found guilty of timber embezzlement last in July stemming from a stint spent serving as an advisor to Kirov governor Nikita Belykh between May and September 2009. According to investigators, Navalny organized the theft of over 10,000 cubic meters of timber during that period in collusion with Vyatka Timber Company Director Pyotr Ofitserov and Kirovles CEO Vyacheslav Opalyov.

    Alexei Navalny lawyer said this

lawyer Olga Mikhailova, none of the documents submitted by the investigators prove her clients' guilt. This is a civil dispute between the companies, she added

So even his lawyer knows the charges are not make believe she even said there was a disagreement a civil dispute between the companies involved. He was convicted of fraud for the 2009 charge reason he can not run for President.

There's hardly any detail here at all. You were asked for the full details of the trial, if it was legitimate then why can you not produce them?

Surprising this absolute raving lunatic John McCain is still given the time of day.

A darling of the US media of course, despite being full blown crazy and a parody of himself.

I had the same nonsense thrown at me last week. It's this dumb assumption that if you dislike Russia's fúckery that you must be in favour of the USA's. I can only imagine the limited thought processes behind it.

65 percent of the population identify themselves as Russian in Crimea. I not sure why you keeping saying it was Ukrainian land?

    It's occupied Ukraine ,

I beginning to like Trump, just a little bit, his Jekyll and Hyde character can be annoying though at times. He's so up and down and changes and lies a lot. Spot on with those twitter messages though. Trump truly feels this way he needs to be careful who he surrounds himself with many backstabbers are after him for cosying up to Russia and are leaking stuff to the press.

Gatling told me many times there no jihadists in Syria it just Putin propaganda. You guys are constantly liking his posts. If you guys spoke up more what you think we would not assume you're supporting that position!

Simple the notion they know what they are taking about is laughable ,you got a copy and paste off wiki ,
There is no discussion with anyone who relies on copy and paste from wiki or else where ,

Crimea - 1, Ethnically Russian 2, Majority in favour of being part of Russian federation. 3, most important base of the Russian Black Sea fleet.

You think for one second that the Ukraine regime should have a free hand in a place whey they are clearly not welcome?

What about the 48% who are Ukrainian and were blocked from voting by russian military forces who themselves voted despite not been resident in Ukraine
