Received a notification about the Higher PO. Another application form to be completed (after a quick glance it seems to be much the same as the PO form) by the 17th and then shortlisting will take place in December.

The thought of another interview is sending shivers down my spine
I agree, I don't have the stomach for another one so soon.

Just to save me contacting them, does anyone know if a regional breakdown is yet available from the PAS?
    Thanks

in fairness I view PO1 as an outside chance bonus at this point

I will throw hat in the ring but have no expectation given that we would be competing against lots of exsiting POs some of whom will be very experienced.

Even to get shortlisted for interview would be an achievement I think

I heard from a colleague who contacted PAS that no regional rankings will be issued, but the regional placings will be used.

Cheers. Does this mean you may not be informed where you are on a specific location panel but that if a post becomes available in a location PAS will go through the entire list at that point and identify who is 'next' for that location?

I meant 20 placed on panel rather than assigned a job

Indeed it would be strange to promote 20 counsellors off the open panel - there aren't that many counsellor positions to warrant that - taking into account there are the internals to consider

Is there any clarity as to when the new PO panel becomes live?

    nope

we haven't seen anyone here indicate that they are in clearance as of yet

I'm presuming (hoping) that they'll tell us before they start making contact with references? I'll need to have a conversation with my reference beforehand but i'm holding off on that until I'm 100% that the move is imminent.

The vibes I've gotten is clearance won't be bulked as with previous panels as the volume won't be there to justify it. Clearance will be one or two at a time as requests to fill vacancies arise.

Does anyone know of regions where there are PO vacancies waiting to be filled?

    Thanks

I don't think that information is available.

Just to update, I called PAS who gave very little information except to say that the panel may not be live until after Christmas.:(
Very little info apart from that.......

Thanks for the update. If the old panel has been expired, then the effect if this delay will just be that 3 or 4 (or more?) posts will be filled in one go in the new year instead of a drip feed of one by one posts from early November on. I assume the hold up is the Counsellor panel sorting offers/clearance, etc.

I think the old panel is still in place until the new one goes live?

Also I would say that the hold up is due to the PO Higher competition - shortlisting for that will take place in December.

Yes, old panel still in place until new one comes online. A post was filled in the last couple of weeks from it.

The new panel is now live. Regional placings are also now known but are somewhat meaningless as most candidates will have selected two locations. Also some of those who selected regional locations may be also be placed on the Counsellor and PO Higher panels and presumably those will mostly be Dublin positions.

Has someone been placed off the new panel then?

I didn't ask. PAS just told me the old one was closed and the new one was live.

I was told my place but itcould be that they've decided against it as the info is unreliable due to people now being on the Counsellor panel, the pending PO higher panel and people selecting two location preferences?

The panle has started just 1 person placed

around 5 have gone off panel as Counsellor

around 80 made the panel - so quite a high failure rate given around 200 were called to assessment

How do people assess the odds of them calling a second batch for interview/assessment centre? Are they likely to work through a panel of 80 in its lifetime? I believe they got up to about 120 in the previous panel.

no idea but it seems unlikely in short term

    Latest from Union
    Principal Officer Competitions
    2017 Open PO Panel:
A panel of 78 is effective since 21st November 2017. One person has been placed. The Association has informed DPER that it is desirable that a closure date is specified for future competitions. There is no closure date specified for the current panel. DPER advises that such panels usually exist for in or around a two-year period. There were 1639 applicants for the competition with only 9% of successful candidates from the private sector.

a handful of people now assigned

I appreciate with only 78 on panel that there may be only a few of us on Boards but any updates or news is appreciated

Very much so, made the panel but lower down the order.

Does that mean 9% of the 80 are external (about 7 people from outside made it)? Or am I reading this wrong?

Hi - First 10 off the panel are in clearance, some of these 10 already have formal offers. All 10 posts so far are in Dublin from a variety of Departments.

Higher PO results are out. Its a thumbs down for me. Not surprised as I knew I bombed one of the 3 online interview questions.
I did wonder afterwards if I should have sought the help of a HR type expert to help me prepare a script for the 3 interview questions. We were given the 3 questions a week beforehand so there was plenty of time. I presume that there will be another interview stage anyway so maybe its a moot point.
Anyway not to worry - the main panel seems to be moving.

So if there are 7 on the PO panel do we know how many (if any) external (non existing civil servants) got selected on the Counsellor panel and on the PO (higher) panel?

Well I can name 1 of the 7 external who made the PO panel but didn't make the higher PO ;)

    that was last I heard

I am not sure how many of the 6 gone to Counsellor Panel are beyond number which would lower numbers further.

I would not expect more than say 4 or 5 a month tbh

Yeah, 15 in/gone through clearance, some placed already, some have turned down posts - all offers made so far are to the Dublin panel.
