The Leixlip 5K Road Race & Fun Run takes place on the 2nd May @ 11 a.m. in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. Over the years, the race has attracted club athletes, runners, joggers and walkers from the local area and across the country as well as a large contingent from boards.ie. The race is part of the Kildare 5K series, which consists of 5 races run by athletics clubs in the county. We hope to provide the same high quality race this year with a fast course, friendly atmosphere and our renowned post race refreshments. In 2014 we added junior races on our new state-of-the-art all weather track, so there is something for all the family.

Online entry will be available on precisiontiming.net from Monday 23rd February. Online entry fee is €15. Entries will also be taken on the day for €18. Junior race registration is on the day for €2

With a little over 2 weeks to go, plans are coming together nicely for another well organised race! So far, Entry levels are good and looking like a good long range weather forecast! Bakers and cake makers are primed and ready to go!! Goodie bags being planned again this year!

There is a limited amount of parking in the Amenities Centre which normally fills up quite early. We have agreed with the Lidl beside the track to have use of some of their car park. If you are using that car park, please park at the end closest to the track leaving the spots closer to the shop for customers. There is also the Irish Rail car park at Louisa Bridge which costs €4 per day or €3 if you have parkbytext.

Online entry closes at 6 p.m. We're also taking entries on the day for €18. Looking forward to see lots of the boards crew tomorrow.

What was great? No shower, tiny pre and post race area or no t-shirt?

I did ras na ri last week and was much better.

P.s. I was not included on results and I am still not...

Tough tough race given the conditions. I did not enjoy it one bit. 20 seconds off my PB too :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 601 ✭✭✭Slow_Runner

Big thanks to everyone involved in organising this, horrible conditions meant no PBs on the cards but plenty of marshals on the course and big spread after. The weather didn't help after as everyone crammed into the cabin but lots of chocolate cake and hot drinks were very welcome.
only peev was race time came up as 20:01 while watch said 20:59!!!!! ;). Still happy with time given the conditions.
perhaps a Child of Prague for next year :)

Would you like to borrow a dictionary?

I do not care about the medal and the back rub but we paid to race and at least we should expect accurate results.

Chips sometime fail, nothing the organisers of the race can do about that!!.
Email the chipiming company and tell them whereabouts you finished info@precisiontiming.net
Precision timing normally have a video of the finish line so they can verify your result that way.

Le Cheile employed Precision timing to do the timing...a professional company who specialise in race timing (and time loads of other events around the country). Le Cheile can hardly be blamed if something went wrong with your timing chip

    No shower...for a 5k, are you serious?

The pre and post race area was fine. Okay it was a little crammed due to everyone sheltering from the weather but it was comparable to any other 5k. I didn't do the race this year but have in other years and it's always well organised. The only issue I saw (which wouldn't have really been an issue if the weather wasn't so bad) was the slippy grass as the course entered the race track and also the 180 degree turn about on the track in the last 300m isn't ideal.

The spread/selection of cakes afterwards was excellent...I helped myself to more than I probably should have considering I hadn't raced :o

Indeed. I talked to the race official as soon as results were put up. I was told that results were for club members only? Not sure what he meant. So I querried further and the race official asked for my race number. I gave it to him and he pointed that my number was in fact included. I said, it was my number but I was not that person. At this point he left and I went home. I was in top10 so they were not that busy at the finish line yet. I emailed precision timing but they already had put up incorrect results online.

Tom, if you send me your details I will make sure the results are updated. I spoke with Ronan in Precision Timing after the race and we reviewed the video and agreed that the result was wrong but we did not have your details to correct it.

The weather had a huge influence on the space available for the pre and post race areas, it is not normally so crowded.

Did this race & enjoyed it alright. The only thing I would say as someone further down the field, we weren't aware that the race had started, you need a gun or horn, something that would let everyone know we're off !! might have cost me few seconds :)

Did anyone do a PB on last year or did most people finish slower this year because of the weather? I was disappointed with my time.

  • Registered Users Posts: 35 3D2S

Hats off to all at Le Cheile today. Not easy to get the amount of friendly encouraging marshals out on a day like this. Race is a good fast course. Food after fantastic and if clubhouse was crammed it was only because of the rain. No pb for me either but happy with my race and goody bag. No need for a shower today either ....think I was drenched enough😆

I'd say the girls handing out the numbers give you the wrong one - they looked a bit flustered when I was getting mine - there were a few people collecting numbers, the girls giving them out looked quite young and were leaning over each other, grabbing numbers from all over the place. I got them to double check my number. I was actually surprised at how young the all were giving out number - maybe have a few adults doing it next yr!

That's said I actually enjoyed the race, yeah the cabin was cramped afterwards but if the weather had of been any way better no one would of complained.

    any photos?
