Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What I can't stand about the water protesters is that they can't name what it is they are being repressed for. Austerity essentially means government reduces spending yet this translates as government harassment. At most it is an inconvenience to pay the water tax but it is not actual repression. A case of vocal acrobatics to translate that as government is mean and imposing harsh brutal measures.

PM Thatcher was conducting very harsh tactics against the coal miners who lets be fair where in a dying industry when she was applying austerity. The continent also has to deal with a very raw element of belligerents. We thank god don't have to deal with that yet go on as though the politicians are actually criminals. Basically a blatant disregard for civic duty.

Ironically I come from a long line of republicans - Amongst my forefathers are a Sinn Féin mayor in office before the foundation of the state, members of the Irish communist party, one of whom gave his life in the Spanish civil war fighting fascism and IRA volunteers who saw active service during the War of independence.

Is having to obey the law such a hardship for people ? All they have to do is sit on their hole in a chair in front of the telly.

Im sure if a couple of lads stood in front and behind your car and decided they didn't want you to go to work youd have no issue with the Gardaí hauling them off? Would you be campaigning for their release if they kept doing it every morning despite the courts ordering them not too?

Considering he has a law degree, there's a decent chance he understands what 'Contempt of Court' actually means, and yet he leads his moronic followers up the garden path.

Sometimes I think there should be laws in place to protect stupid people from shysters. Other times I think 'fcuk them', they deserve it.

These cases have been going on since long before Paul Murphy came across the phrase political policing after he was arrested.

How long should they be allowed to prevent people from working because they feel like it? Can I do that to you?

Paul Murphy speaks at rallies in DUBLIN. I've never heard him speak and as I've said on here already, I never heard of him until last November.

In general the law has never tried protestors for false imprisonment before. Since all protests can "trap" people it's a unique use of the legislation

This has nothing to do with the people that were arrested last week. This is over the people that were jailed as a result of continuously breaking court orders to stay 20m away from meter installers that were working because they were interfering with them.

They were warned over and over in various court appearances and they kept disobeying.

6 Gardai to arrest Paul Murphy TD, for blocking a car.

Appointment made with former FF councillor on charges, that he pleaded guilty to, of soliciting murder to turn up at a Garda station of his own volition.

Why anyone thinks the IW arrests are political is beyond me.

the anti water movement would have a lot more credibility if it wasnt being over taken by the same old bandwagon jumpers .

im anti water charges but im more anti those people , and i think thats a stance that a lot of people hold

    Negative.

It's not a stance that a lot of people hold, it's more likely a stance that a lot of people hold here on this forum only, as there is a bigger place out there that resides outside of a forum, and as such, most folk would disagree with you.

There was a detailed explanation put out in one of the other threads about this, but the "OMG 6 Gardaí brutalised Paul Murphy " version works better for the cause. 2 of the 6 were high ranking Gardaí attending as a courtesy to him. To get the 2 members to and from the house requires a car with a driver (and the other Gard that would be in the car) plus the car to take Paul Murphy to the station hat also has 2 Gardaí in it.

    The people have spoken.

    Irish water has been questioned.
    The messes shall be queried.

Light shall come to darkness and from darkness light.

And it was then revealed unto the people:

The land beyond the pale too would bring forth milk and honey. Look not only within the pale where He speaks, but beyond.

    Next three completely irrelevant.

    Garbled penultimate sentence.

    Meaningless slogan to close.

How long should they be allowed to prevent people from working because they feel like it? Can I do that to you?

"2003: Labour Party members in anti-war sit down protest at Shannon including blocking of a Gardai van" - can't find any record of arrests for the false imprisonment of the Gardai.

"20 Jan 2015: Taxi drivers are to hold a “drive-through” protest in Dublin city centre from 2pm today (Tuesday)." - no record of any arrests at this.

"20 Oct 2014: Traffic was severely disrupted around Dublin’s East Wall and the Dublin Port Tunnel this morning due to a tax protest by lorry drivers.
The drivers blocked the southbound tunnel with lorries at about 6am, but these were moved shortly after 8.30am and the tunnel has reopened." - protest planned during Rush Hour, preventing people from going about their daily work. Zero arrests.

But the IW arrests are non-political, you have to understand.

If the Gardai had made an appointment with Murphy for his arrest he would have organised for the usual retinue of amateur lawyers to advise the Gardai on the law to be in attendance. Along with the citizen film crews to record proceedings for YouTube. And assorted IRA and Eirigi elements would have turned up as well. Same for all the others who got an early morning visit.

The Gardai don't need that sort of hassle if it can be avoided.

Why would you need more than 'one' Garda for a well known law abiding citizen like this ?...

Because some individual/individuals within FG and/or Labour most likely gave the green card to try and dismantle and discredit this man and ordinary Irish citizens from protesting. It's all back-firing on the government now and also RTE.
