Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I despise these rabble raisers and layabouts who latch onto causes to cause trouble.

People should pay for water services, the sewers are falling apart, the water quality terrible and sewage plants inadequate.

Investment is needed to put it right.

Is it 500 million they've thrown at iw so far?
That would have gone a long way towards solving the problems.

Why would you need more than 'one' Garda for a well known law abiding citizen like this ?...

Because some individual/individuals within FG and/or Labour most likely gave the green card to try and dismantle and discredit this man and ordinary Irish citizens from protesting. It's all back-firing on the government now and also RTE.

Having never been arrested, I would presume that executing a warrant would require at least 2 Gardai. If for no other reason than to have a witness to the arrest.

Murphy knows nothing about not being able to make ends meat or pay bills, he's a silver spoon kid with a loud mouth leading a pack of wasters who are only used to receiving payments from the state rather than having to contribute!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 10,087 ✭✭✭✭Dan_Solo

There was a detailed explanation put out in one of the other threads about this, but the "OMG 6 Gardaí brutalised Paul Murphy " version works better for the cause. 2 of the 6 were high ranking Gardaí attending as a courtesy to him. To get the 2 members to and from the house requires a car with a driver (and the other Gard that would be in the car) plus the car to take Paul Murphy to the station hat also has 2 Gardaí in it.
You're having a laugh. Can't these "high ranking Gardaí" drive themselves or make the arrest? They need effin' chauffeurs?
What do you mean by "courtesy"? Is that a codeword for "so the lads wouldn't kick the ****e out of him"?

Just doing quick calculations for people that want the payments for water to come from a single source, maintaining the same inadequate level of funding at €1.3b , split among the iirc 1.7nm households, that's roughly a €765 bill for every house. That's what you need to pay, minimum. and you'll still have the same **** , crumbling system we have now.

BTW folks, your not paying for it 3 times. Your paying the same amount, split from different sources.

We aren't talking about mates, we are talking about countries who bought high risk bonds, with no security. They are high risk for a reason. That's why they are unsecured.

If I put a bet on at 10/1 with paddy power, and it loses, my opinion or perception of Paddy Power doesn't change because they don't give my stake back.

I 100% understand paying back secured bond holders. But unsecured is money we don't have going to people we don't need to pay back,

More responsible people like the Swiss, Japs would take responsibility for what they needed to pay, but then they dont whine and waste their money in the pub.

The problem is not the water rates, its the Irish people having no self discipline to manage their money. Look at the Celtic tiger.

No we don't. We pay for it once. One amount. Its just taken from multiple sources.
The country is running a €5B deficit. So tax cuts shouldn't be looked at. If you pay the full amount of current spending from one source, as outlined above, €765 per household, per year .Without meters everyone pays the same too. So a guy in a one bed apartment pays the same as a family in a mansion in Killiney. That doesn't sound a very fair system. That still means we're running a €4b deficit.

Taxes can be cut when we are running a surplus, as they were in the past.

This not wanting to pay for essential services and feeling its your right to have them, yet having no problem wasting money on beer, fags and sky tv shows the lack of discipline in Irish culture. It reflects in anti social behavior too.

Whatever about Sky. If the irish decided not to smoke or drink, tax would plummet. You do realise excise etc make up a huge percentage of the tax take. That why cigarettes aren't €20 a pack. Nothing to do with health, all about balancing the tax take.
