Can we please go back to 4 at the back? This hasn't been working since Swansea

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,787 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

    Well that was quite dreadful.

After riding our look for the first five minutes, I thought we came into the game very well and probably should've taken the lead and It be fair to say that Arsenals first was against the run of play but from then on, Liverpool made far too many mistakes and got punished from them by a decent enough Arsenal side.

Its worrying now for the trip to Blackburn with so many suspensions but we should have enough to get the win.

Assumptions that we'll get 5th are quite arrogant imo. We're bang out of form now and look poor. This could play out very ugly.

    Blackburn game is huge. Huge.

Could well be 7th after the weekend.

First 3rd of the season catching up with us

Our form was petering out before there united game and the last 2 games have been abysmal, really worrying. Focus on the cup now and see how we go although I wouldn't hold much hope for the Blackburn game on the back of that showing today.

Three at the back is dependant on skrtel in the middle then. We looked so average today. Deflatingly so. What really grates is that we were poor against utd too and we followed that up with another crap performance. No leader.

    Whats Rafa at these days??

God be with the day's it was Mascherano, Alonso and Gerrard in midfield not Lucas, Allen, & Markovic

Been poor for the last few games just none of the other teams could take advantage

Who cares those days are long gone, why not bring back Souness and Daglish to play on the middle they were good to

Blackburn have put out a team with both their main strikers starting so hopefully they'll get a few knocks from the Leeds midfield/defenders.

Taking Napoli down the table like us unfortuntley. He's gone 5 years now think we should let it go now.

Well safe to say that's that for champions league qualification this season, what a complete cluster fcuk the last few weeks have been.

-Forget to turn up for the first half against UTD
-gerrard comes on basically kills any chance of a comeback in that game
-Skertl then decides to act the clown and gets a ban
-the sterling adds his load of **** into the mix

The today we go in on the back of the sterling crap all week, missing skertl, missing gerrard, get thumped by a couple of worldie goals and get Chan sent off to cap it all off. We go down to Blackburn to play the jolly green giant they have up front with a back 3 of Sakho, Toure and Lovren, it's almost a back 3 tailor made to make mistakes!

It's almost the perfect blueprint for fcuking a season up.

Arsenal are a very dangerous team and just had the quality to create a bucket of chances and take 4 of them.

We had **** all going on up front.

If your game plan is get attacked for 80 minutes you're not going to win.

We badly need a quality wide attacker who can support our striker properly and someone up front who's good enough to start these games and is occasionally fit.

There were foibles in the first 2/3 of the pitch but you're putting them under huge pressure if they've no outlet.
There's positions that could be improved and players that didn't turn up today who you'd expect more from, but they weren't the reason we got twatted.

We were a bit off the pace all over the pitch, getting beaten to the ball, having poor control. We didn't look sharp or confident. But that's something that can grow in a game if you have the team to do it.
    We currently don't.

5th and a cup final would be a decent return so we need to hit that at a minimum. The way we're playing at the moment I wouldn't put it past us to stumble against Blackburn.

Ian Wright just said he thought Sterling "played well today and did himself proud."

    Jesus wept......

Interesting summer awaits.. Only positive out of that game was we didn't fall apart (before sending off) when we went four at the back and looked bit more purposeful in attack. But overall it wasn't great again. Such a shame we had such a horrible 1st half of the season as there is no coming back now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,348 ✭✭✭✭ricero

Just need to pick ourselves up after the last two games which have been really disheartening results.

Evident today though that its time to go out this summer and start buying proven players no more young players that may come good in the future.

its time the club reviews its transfer policy.

We'll never get anywhere without quality players. Potential only gets you so far.

Shocking stuff. Champions League this year was always going to be a huge ask.
    Very disappointing.

if we had of fooking consolidated on being in the champs league this season and went out and bought quality players it maybe wouldn't have been a huge task..

Don't see him being sacked even with no FA Cup. I wouldn't be in favour of a change anyway to be honest. The quality of the players available is the biggest problem currently and hard to see that changing.

Not all Rodgers fault. Transfer policy is a joke. Here is a list of player the Transfer commitee have falied to sign

    - Mkhitaryan
    - Willian
    - Konoplyanka
    - Costa
    - Salah (playing great in Serie A)
    - Sanchez
    - Remy

Sack Rodgers, bring in a new manager, then what?

If the owners aren't giving any backing to the manager then it doesn't matter who he is.

exactly the clubs transfer policy has to change. its time to finally get out the checkbook and go for top drawer players.

Thing is, that late equaliser against Everton and those terrible results against Palace and West Ham, and the two all draw with Leicester at home really did us. Even 5 or 6 points and we would still have been in there batting.

As for Sterling yeah we might get a few quid for him, but would you trust Rodgers to spend it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,316 ✭✭✭kevohmsford

We are not giving the wages to attract top players. Have to keep Rodgers to develop the players. The decision was obviously made last year to buy young players and hope some of them turn into world class talent.

Oh Christ,we're not doing the sack Rodgers thing again are we?

    We're **** because we can't sign players.

    We can't sign players because we're ****.

Stability, money, success. We have none of these things.

In the last 10 years a team in the top 4 has had to completely **** the bed to drop out.

Until such a time as that happens we're going to have to bide our time, because we're not going to just go and get a better readymade team than those above us.

The Markovics, Cans and Morenos of this world turning into top quality players are pretty much our only bet.

Players like Lallana don't further our long-term goals. Especially if they're never bloody fit.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,391 ✭✭✭PhiloCypher

Forget about where we are in the Premier League table, where are we in the fair play table after the last two games ???

But here is the thing why not ? Suarez wages would have covered i reckon the majority of last summers signings alone.

Now gerrard leaving and even johnson frees up a lot of cash for wages along with this new tv deal.

Time we get the checkbook out and sign proven quality.

The cheque book has been out, it's just it was phished away 20 odd million at a time on the likes of Markovic, Allen, Ballotelli, Lovren etc.

With financial fair play Liverpool cannot go out and spend alot of money for the foreseeable future.

No one ever cares what their own manager has to say after a game, because they know it's shíte talk. They just use what other teams' managers say as a stick to beat them with and take the píss.

Yeah that's a great fantasy you live in , the club just didn't put the effort in to keep him when it was needed.
