Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ok for those who say we have the 5th highest wages therefore 5th is where we will finish most seasons as we can't afford to compete with the top 4 year in yearout for CL football.

Then surely we must focus on the the EL title as a way into the CL every season.

If winning that becomes our best way into CL football and the money that goes with it.

I'd also imagine we would be in the top couple of clubs in the EL in terms of wage spend too, so surely nailed on for a deep run.

The EL maybe rubbished in England but isn't around Europe.

If we get to the latter stages of any European competition year in year out better players will want to come to a team in with a chance at a European trophy.

This may be the only way to grow as a club for the next ten years of people think we will only finish 5th most years.

I've been consistent in my view that I want us to win, and try to win, every competition we are in. Sometimes it's prudent and sensible to swap a few players for freshness sake, but I'm very much against wholesale changes for any cup game in any competition.

    Good point.

There is a train of thought that says we should ignore the EL so we can get into the CL but if we focus more on the EL we could get into the CL...and win a trophy in the process.

The Europa is a 56 runner '12/1 the field' luckfest though, you could target it properly, be the best team in it, do everything right in every game and yet still be smacked by a bit of bad luck in a knockout tie.
Whereas even if we are outside the Top 4 fancied teams at the start of the EPL season, out actual odds of getting top 4 will be around 7/4 or 2/1.

So in that sense the league is the one to concentrate it.

I'm just gonna say it, I'd be all for changing the name of Anfield to "Dunkin' Costa Chartered", or anything of the sorts, for say, 250m.

Would certainly help with the stadium extension and bridging that revenue gap between the top four and us.

Sure without the 'n' Anfield is only a field.

    We'll actually end up with

    The Dunkin' Donuts Stand
    Standard Chartered Stand
    Warrior Stand
Guauda Sit Down and Keep Quiet Stand (aka the Kop)

all for about 40m a year I'd say.

I wonder if a deal could be done for Parks and Recreation Park? Amy Poehler could be our winning mascot with "Ron Swanson" making a guest appearance after every defeat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

If we could get Swanson to do all our PR work too, including press conferences, that would be great.

Shame L'il Sebastian isn't still with us, he'd have been a great mascot.

    RIP L'il fella.

I've binge watched 4 seasons last week on U.S netflix! Sorry about the spoiler but he's actually a horse, not a pony, show some god damn respect!

Ron's reaction to his death was good! You'll enjoy it, not a spoiler as such.

Sorry back on topic, errm, ugh, nah I've got nothing.

Listening to a podcast yesterday I forget which one now they all kind of blend together but they were saying Markovic is suffering quiet badly for homesickness and that is playing a part in his lack of confidence this season.

Markovic had this massive air of expectation coupled with his arrival, i think next season he should be a lot more settled.

Immobile, no thanks, he's Italian that's enough for me.

Mandzukic - yes please but I couldn't see Atletico selling him he has been pretty good this season.

Ayew - he's not very prolific for a striker also blows very hot and cold anytime I have seen him. I would take him if the price was right though, isn't a free agent? I also head him confess he was a Liverpool fan before but that usually mean SFA.

I think we have been linked with every forward that moved last summer now.
Wont take long before the Balotelli to LFC rumours start.

Lambert hanging around London, looking vulnerable, while walking in the direction of Liverpool.

    It might just work.

I don't see why Atletico would want him out, unless he's not settling. I know Torres is back, but they don't exactly have a glut of strikers.

Immodile is too big of a risk for what it would cost, and Ayew is just not at that level, but as free he'd be better than Borini or Lambert.

We still need a first choice to complete with Sturridge, or to start when he's invariably injured. Berahino, Ings, Origi, Balotelli, Ayew - all not good enough when you look at what the other top teams have in reserve.

My question for the day, if you were choosing what English player to blow a small fortune on would you choose Bolsaise or Berahino?

    Probably confusing Bolasie with Berahino...
