Uncashed dividends

Does anyone have any experience of dealing with uncashed dividend cheques that have expired (and in some cases may be lost). What happens to the unclaimed funds? Is the company obliged to transfer them or is there a time limit on claiming dividends. If back dividends are paid what's the tax position, is tax due at the current or historical rates?

    Any insight greatly appreciated

Not sure what the situation is there Daragh, I would suggest contacting the Investor Relations Dept (you should find contact details on their website) of the relevant companies first, they are generally helpful.

On the tax issue, I would imagine that you would be liable for tax in the year the dividend issued, but again Revenue will clarify that for you.
