Don't forget our own oldest actress, Maureen O'Hara who is 94 and was still working at 80.

Perhaps I was wrong, but I've seen you make unprovoked attacks on celebrity women's looks before (in this forum, precisely), and I was genuinely shocked to find out you were a woman, so that's why I jumped to that conclusion. I'm also sick and tired of people acting like Madonna's killed a newborn baby or something because she dresses like an idiot. She should get way more criticism for being a moody snob. But if you admire Julianne's poise, then fine.

I, however, admire the likes of Meryl Streep. Every interview I've seen of her (and I've seen a lot), she's classy, smart, and most of all, interesting-- a quality very rare in actresses.
I think you might be confusing Candie with someone else, as she is the very antithesis of a woman who would put down other women. Candie is actually a woman who regularly speaks out against misogyny and women putting down other women.
I can't understand where you're coming from tbh.

Madonna has most certainly not aged naturally, and can conduct herself in an extremely undignified manner - that there's no need for. Julianne Moore is understated and elegant, and I don't know what you mean by "boring" - she is an excellent actress. Just because she hasn't lobbed the gob on Drake (cringe) - arguably sexual assault - doesn't mean she's boring.

Thanks for that CWK, much appreciated. :)

I would add that I was upset at the accusation that I attacked women celebrities, so I just checked back over two years of my posts on this forum, and it's something that simply has never happened.

    :)

Actually, ladies, I am absolutely correct. Candie made a comment in a thread I started, specifically (it was about Kim Kardashian, actually--the comment, not the thread). It had nothing to do with anything, except to criticize the size of her butt and how many men "probed it". It was a disgusting post, and the fact that she feels the need to drag Madonna into an otherwise inspiring thread (particularly the female politicians and musicians) for no other reason than to disparage her, says a lot. But hey Candie, you want to play that game, fine.

Like I said, I find Meryl Streep likable. Unlike, say, Julianne Moore-- a woman who wouldn't have an original thought or idea if she had a gun pointed to her head, a woman who's more famous for the color of her hair than anything else, a woman with the charisma of a block of wood, and a woman who, in her off days, schlumps around looking like a person who gets dressed in the dark.

I know who I'd want to look like at those ages.

Weird hate you've got going on for a woman who is an excellent actress and keeps a low profile.
Also strange that you castigated Candie for mentioning appearance yet you've done just that above.

I was being ironic, by imitating Candie's post. So I don't have weird hate for an "excellent actress". I have a dislike of what I consider to be a terrible actress.

It's getting a tad bit more personal and off topic now so I'm gonna nudge this back on track. Ye can continue to hash out those grievances by PM if you wish.

Yep, that's her alright, she wouldn't be that well known really nowadays, but a good many years ago she was well known for her modelling (before Olivia Tracey became a household name). She's well known in Irish celebrity socialite circles alright.

They're actually running an exhibition of her career down here in The Hunt Museum in Limerick the last month (but a lot of the photos you're going to find on google anyway), and I'd sometimes meet her when she's working in the hotels round here (exhibition shows, photo-shoots, etc). Really genuine and lovely woman to talk to.

Just looking back over these photos, and the thought occurs to me that the best anti-ager in both looks and attitude is a great big genuine happy smile.

    Take that, botox! :)

The kind of genetics the rest of us can only dream of, money, and happiness.

In Christine Binkley's case I am pretty sure there is also plenty of bottox and possibly some other work done. She has great body but nobody can make it to sixtyone without wrinkles. And tbh I actually prefer a face that has a story to tell then one completely polished and ironed. For me the most attractive old women are those who own their age and feel comfortable in their skin.

First vote for Charlotte Rampling, now 69: still working, with class and style and femininity. One of my heroines.

That's not the most flattering photo of her, though, she looks much better really.

@IvyTheTerrible - very true. But in it she looks slightly like me - or I like her, that is to say, very slightly - so -- *blush*

You know, role models and everything... *grinning*

The elegant, talented, and intelligent Julianne Moore. Madonna hasn't got a fraction of her presence or impact, in spite of all the attention grabbing she does and all her attempts to stay relevant.

I find this comparison so weird. Why would Madonna even pop into your head when talking about Julianne Moore? I don't really like Madonna but this is kind of catty. If anything, Madonna doing whatever she wants and not worrying about coming across as elegant and ladylike is as commendable.

Already mentioned but I think deserving of a second mention:

Vanessa Redgrave. Right throughout her career has seemed so gentle and unassuming and poised. She seems like a kind woman.

Debbie Harry brought female sexual aggression into a palatable, even admirable context.

    Madonna thinks she invented it.

Madonna publically put down Sinead O'COnnor {who has oodles of more organic talent} after Sinead O'Connor ripped up a picture of the Pope. Madonna who simulated masturbation on stage with a crucifix.

Sorry but Madonna is a jerk.

I was thinking by the time I get to my 60's I would give even less of a toss about being valued on my hotness. But I guess if you're a model or something, that's all there is. Kinda sucks to be them.

Anyway, older than me, but not particularly old, being in her 50's... I've always been impressed with Marie Cassidy, state pathologist here. Huge amount of work behind her, and a very tough job.

Sonja Ghandi (68). Re-elected for the 4th time, longest serving president of the Indian National Congress Party.

I know she's not popular around these parts, but Angela Merkel(61?) is one of the most politically powerful people in the world, certainly the most powerful woman in the world. I'm mega impressed with that kind of achievement.

Yeah I guess she doesn't save enough babies in Africa or something. Because that is what female politicians are supposed to do. An acceptable alternative is possibly covering portfolio for social welfare or children.

Heh. I think she was minister for youth and women at some stage. and the environment, so those are fairly well covered. And she's a scientist, which is a nice change in politics.

But being someone who hauls economies back to a functioning state from collapse just ain't sexy.

I have a huge, huge amount of admiration for Angela Merkel. Anyone leading Europe's most powerful economy and who stands up to people like Cameron and Farage merits a huge pat on the back IMO.

The Guardian are fans as well:
