I'm doing the Liberties run on the Thursday before the Swords 10k (on the Sunday) -- hope my legs will have recovered as I love the Swords race!

I like that Liberties run too, although I haven't done it since 2012 (when it was 6.5 k or something). Great event.

    It's still a weird length - 6k!

Must be organised by a cross-country specialist.

Would anyone have a spare number for tomorrow?

    Hope you get one!

Actually knew of someone giving away her number but she gave it to a colleague on Thursday. :(

Windy and showery tomorrow I think guys?

Have we any hills to 'look forward' to tomorrow? Never ran this route before. Good luck everyone :D

From what I remember an incline as you approach the finish. Hopefully you won't notice due to crowd cheering.

    Cool, I'll take that!

Is the rest pretty much flat then?

(Saw people on facebook complaining about t-shirt quality, asking why having a sponsor like asics isn't bringing about better tech tops!)

The Swords 10k is defo a PB possible. I knocked two minutes off mine last year which brought it to 52mins.

The thing is, from more or less the get go you are on the swords by pass which is three lanes wide and that continues on for a couple K so you can pass people till your heart is content.

Your legs are conducive to a PB, crowds and other factors are secondary really

Another personal best this morning.... 50 seconds off...a hot muggy day

Over 2 min faster this year myself, the finish line is in a much better spot. Great race the best of the series IMO.

Great race. Anybody with a large t-shirt want to swap for my medium?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,405 ✭✭✭fletch

13 second PB for me (although 2.5min improvement on last yr) and top 50 finish...delighted :)
Great race...a lot cooler than last year but heated up towards the end. Very well organised finishing area. That last km was an absolute killer though!
Anyone hear what happened the girl who collapsed near one of the roundabouts...I didn't see her but friends behind said she looked in a bad way

Great race as always. T-shirts are a disgrace. XL, which is usually too big for me, is stuck to me. I don't know why they bother giving them out at this stage.

Ditto... I seem to think I am slimer than I actually am!!! :(

I don't know what happened but when we went passed it was like she had fainted, poor thing.

Small tshirt is too big on me...material is lighter than the 5 miler t-shirt so least there's a chance I might wear this one.

I think they're lady's sizes. My XL from the 5 mile fits perfectly but this one is like shrink wrap, and I'm by no means a big guy.

No way are they ladies' sizes! My small is longer than my running shorts on me, and pretty spacious, and I am not particularly small!

Also, great to meet Murph D, Annapr and aquinn today. (and to bump into Laura_ac). Well run, all!

Well whatever sizes they are they're completely wrong.

My small size fits great, similar, if not the same as the 5 mile one. A lot better in terms of quality and fitting compared to last year. Its only a t-shirt anyway. For the 20euro entry fee you could go buy a nice t shirt in a shop and run 10k at any time

    Enjoyed the event, well organised

If you ever enjoyed playing "Where's Wally" you'll doubtless have some fun trying to spot yourself in these photos taken from the footbridge at around 2km.

I enjoyed todays race. Got home in 37.15 which is just outside my PB, not sure where that came from as I wouldn't think I am in the best shape or training all that hard at the moment but I will definitely take it. It's a tricky enough course, a couple of testing drags, struggled a bit on the last one coming round the corner to the finish. Thought it was very well organised, it was a good idea to move the finish so we avoided that final drag. It was a bit cool before the start but it warmed up towards the end.

The finish area was very well organised, there was a however a bit of jam at the exit but it move pretty well. I like the tshirt, I got a medium and it fits perfectly. I have used the 5 mile a few times and will use this one as well, a great improvement on what we got last year. At the start the announcer welcomed some athletes who had mistakenly gone to the Phoenix Park but made it to Swords just in time. He also called our 3 people whose birthday it was, a nice touch.

Was the finish line not in the same place last year? I really enjoyed the race yesterday. It makes such a difference when theres a cool breeze. I got a PB by over a minute and 2 mins improvement on last year. My tshirt is a small and fits grand. Enjoyed the spray from the fire brigade as usual. Didn't get a sports drink as it looked like they were only starting to open the packs. I was glad to see 2 water stations, I brought my own anyway after being parched at the 5 mile, but still drank it all plus the 2 cups I got. Thought the little doorway exit through the castle wall was a bit mental with such a big crowd, I was ages waiting on my friend to come through. Apart from that it was a great race as usual, well organised and left me on a high for the rest of the day! Thanks to all the volunteers.

Not sure what was going on with the Lucozade people tbh, they didn't seem to be ready at all when I was passing, and I'm not fast so a lot of people ahead of me would have missed out also. They were moving packs of the drink across from one side of the road to the other (and dropping some) which wasn't really the best thing to be doing in the middle of a 10k race. All seemed a bit disorganised.

The 2nd water station was unexpected but welcome as it had warmed up a bit by then. Cups are a pain in the ass though, kids size bottles of water would be much better. In fact, I'd drop the Lucozade completely and just give out small bottles of water.

Not a good race for me yesterday; 43:20 chip time. 1 minute slower than my PB, and I was aiming for sub 42. A combination of having got out for just two runs since the 5 miler, and being generally tired. Moved house immediately after the 5 miler, so it's been a busy 3 weeks for me.

Started out OK, but from KM 6 I could tell I wasn't going to be able to do it, and by KM 8 I had to take my foot off the gas just to get to the finish. I was hot, my thighs were sore and my HR was higher than it should have been at that pace. Last 2 KM were 20/25 seconds slower than my average.

Decent race, good atmosphere. Organisation needs a bit of tweaking though. I saw no marked pens for pace, and when I tried to get up closer to the front, there was no way in. So I had to go towards the back to find a gap in the barriers and then try push my way up to the front.

I heard a couple of people remark that we were standing in the 45 minute pen, so I was happy with that. But when the race started, there was a group of 30 or so from the "Sloggers to Joggers" group who had taken up formation across the length of the road and were running at 55 minute pace, blocking everything up. So there was significant bunching and slowness for the first few hundred metres.

The end is a bit crazy too, with the only exit from the castle apparently being this tiny gate hidden behind the portaloos.

I'm not sure if the Lucozade guys were an official water station or if they just set up there. It was crazy though to see people taking the bottles, having a quick swig and throwing them away. I held onto mine :D
