Great event as always. I had a nightmare at this event last year going out way too fast and barely making the finish line!
Better this year but the upper glen road really slowed me, was running very even 8:20 min miles splits up till the last two miles which were both over 10min miles.
Will really have to work on my hill running as losing 4 mins off my time is frustrating, i expected to slow a little bit going up the hill but not by that much.

I assume you're talking about on North Road? That's almost exclusively zoo traffic, and the footpath parking happens every Saturday and Sunday throughout the Summer (at least, when it's dry :))

Coming on to this thread after a great day in prefect running condition's and the last thing I thought would be getting talked about was parking.

And the Gardai on duty at the Ashtown gate checking motor tax of those unsuspecting runners getting back in to their cars.

Great race, well organised and a good course.

I was disappointed to see so many cut a huge amount off the course by running up the grass from the North Rd over to the path at the side of Chesterfield at 4 miles. I'd say nearly 90% were doing this in around the 66-68 minute mark, easily saving 50-60 metres.

Must say I was guilty of this myself, followed the crowd but I wasn't sure where the course was - didn't notice cones and the area didn't seem to be marshalled like in previous years (not that I would ever blame the marshals anyway). I did make a point of not cutting the left hand turn corner in mile 2 alright. I do try to run a good racing line where possible but cutting corners is not on so I feel a little grubby now!

If you look at the video put up on Facebook the leaders cut this corner aswell, looks like it needs to be marked out better.

Thank you to the boardies who gave me the nutrition advice.
Had eggs and toast early saturday morning and I felt great on the race. Legs were dead weights going up the last hill but that was expected.
Finished in 1 hour 22 mins which was a minute faster than my PB (16KM) even though Strava had me clocking in 16.5KM.

So you should! Cutting corner, tsk.

I was very surprised at the first corner the effort people went to to get through the parked cars just to take the corner out. In my opinion not worth it for fear of going flying over a curb. Same after mile 4 a lot of people took a huge chunk off the corner.

A really super race and event. It's my third one and to date the only race I've absolutely loved each time.

Parking is always a bit mental near the zoo. By 1pm I was home cutting the grass!

I had a surprisingly good race. I missed out on 3 weeks of running after the fingal 10k and just about managed 10 miles last sunday so wasn't expecting much for the Frank Duffy 10 mile. I kept a steady pace until mile 8 when I started to struggle so instead of suffering I decided to take it easy and not kill myself in the last 2 miles. My time for the last 2 years was 90 mins bang on. Saw the finish line in the distance, looked at my watch and saw that it was 1.27.xx so I gave it a bit of welly and finished in 1.28 knocking 2 mins off my pb. I got such a buzz from improving my time that I think I will aim to do the same for the half instead of trying to catch up on training for the DCM. Next time I do the DCM I want to beat my previous time with a decent effort knowing I've done the full training, so for now I'm concentrating on the half and improving my time.

Great day once again. Not sure what to do with my protein shaker....never used protein powder and wouldn't even know where to start! maybe its time I looked into it. Thanks to all the volunteers....a flawless race day as usual.

I had no training at all for the race but was happy with how it went. My body was in bits after the race, could barely walk up the stairs at home. Think i have planter fasciitis on my right foot too, can barely walk on it.

All in all though it was a fantastic event, well worth 20 quid. Cant wait to be better prepared for next year.

    Well done everyone.

I really enjoyed it too and had a nice run. Great event as usual. So impressed with the race series. It's such good value too. Love how we creep up to the big M in October gradually. The series is a great confidence booster!

People cutting the course: I nearly got mowed down as I was a total geek and did the full course. People who were cutting were then flying into me. I'm sure I was getting some death stares but I kept staring ahead and focusing. After all, I was the one following the full course!

Just like to echo all the positives mentioned about Saturday's race. Fair play to the organisers. It was my first time doing any of the Race Series and I found it very well organised. I did the Rock and Roll a couple of weeks ago and think that this race was much better value (and cheaper). Love the tee-shirt (fits perfectly) and will find some use for the smoothie bottle.

I don't live in Dublin but love to run in the Phoenix Park whenever I can. Races like this make me really appreciate the free resource that park is. The only downside on Saturday race was having to leave the park out onto Conyngham Road. It's definitely the most boring part of the course.

Did anyone else find the lack of a breeze anywhere on the route a bit disconcerting ?

Oh hell yeah! Even though I have trained through the humidity across the summer I found Saturday every muggy. I drank all my drink way faster than normal. Got into my head there were 3 water stops and didn't ration it!

Just made my breakfast smoothie for the morning. All packed up in my swanky FD smoothie holder! Really cool gift and something I'll use a lot.

Apparently they will have 'XS' as an option for the HM tops next month!

They'll keep reminding you that you haven't purchased and eventually send you a discount code but yes, not reasonable.

I was DELIGHTED! Because I was 3rd scorer, I was afraid I might drag the whole team down out of the medals. Also, it was cool to get the senior medal when 3/4s of our team were Masters. Go, old people! :)

Dub13, good to meet you last night & well done on the PB!

Cheers, was a good night for it. I am enjoying them never raced such a short distance They seem to be helping as well as over the summer I have ran PB's in 5k, 5 mile, 10k & 10 mile so just the half left. No pressure.

Those Finisher pix are hilarious. How they can justify those prices is beyond me, especially when either they barely get your legs in the photo or you look hideous.

No, the gifts are all different. 10km we got a drinking bottle, the half a hi-vis, 10 mile a wolly hat and can't remember 5 mile. I've only used the drink thing.

Got backpacks at the 5 miler last year. Mine was rubbish - the zip had broken by the time the shuttle bus got down to Parkgate Street.

I suspect that the shaker bottle from this year's 10 miler will get used as a cocktail shaker next time I have people around for drinks in my gaff!

I love the backpack! I use it all the time - you can run to a race with it on your back as it doesn't move about like the drawstring ones do. I actually wear the hat a lot too!

See you all at the Half on the 19th, training is going well....and injury niggles are behaving themselves!!
I also took the plunge and signed up for the DCM (#2) last week.....I am now eating, sleeping and breathing running.

Top tip for anyone struggling with sore joints (ankles/knees)......... after a long run or race, bring a clear air tight plastic bag with you to the pub, order a beer and ask the nice Bar Man to fill your plastic bag with ice and then tuck it into your sock (or loose knee support).
Drink a cold beer or two and get some anti-inflammatory treatment at the same time...... Proof that you can have a social life while in heavy training.....
This method also works well for the Off License/Fridge and the couch too.......:D

Do not ice for any longer than 15 mins

    +1

A great icing method for calves/feet/ankles is to immerse in a bucket of iced water for 1 minute, then take out for 1 minute, repeating for a total of 20 mins. Gets to the places ice packs don't reach. Creates a few puddles but very effective.

Yeah, I find that the beer goes too watery after that....;).....oh you meant the ankle.....on a serious note, this sounds like good advice, why no more than 15 minutes for an injury to be iced??

Good call Bungy Girl too on the basin/bucket of iced water.....veeeerrry brave...

Hi all, bit of an embarrassing but necessary question: are there portaloos at any point on the half marathon route?
Ever since having my baby last year my digestive system has not been cooperating with me once my mileage increases, I've been trying to amend this with diet especially in the days coming up my LSR, but as race day draws closer I'm starting to feel a bit panicky about having problems in this regard on the day :(

AFAIK, the only toilets are near the start. However, the route passes the start point around mile 8 (and passes quite close to the start around mile 4/5). See: http://sseairtricitydublinmarathon.ie/race/dublin-half-marathon/

Hi Cameoette, snap :) I find not eating or grazing for several hours (up to 4) before a run or race helps. Invariably, if I don't stick to this, I have GI issues when either running or racing, best of luck!
