Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back a page or two to re-sync the thread and this will then show latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I actually stayed up last night thinking of functionality it could have had.

    1. Waterproof
    2. Altimeter
    3. Memory back up on contacts in your phone
    4. Gps link with your phone so when you lose or misplace your phone it finds it
    5. Vibrate directions when driving or running. One for left. Two for right.
    6. ROUND FACE
    7. Smoke/ carbon monoxide alarm
    8. Kinetic charge from movement or user.

I was expecting something different. Not a square clunky same same android watch casino were bringing out twenty years ago

    1. Does any watch claim waterproof? Most I've seen are waterproof to a certain depth.
    2. More sensors the better, no argument there.
    3. Solved by iCloud already stated.
    4. GPS is useless for hyper local location 99% of times I've lost my phone it's in my house, gps locates me to min 10m. ibeacon tech would be better for this.
    5. This was demonstrated at the apple watch September event.
    6. Personal preference, I prefer square for smart devices, more screen real estate.
    7. If you want any kind of protection against moisture you can't have this.
    8. You can bet your bottom dollar that they looked into this, it's probably impossible due to the power drain of the screen, cpu and the multitude of sensors would burn through battery faster than you'd create it.

Android seems to be all circle screens this time so apple seems to have actually gone different :)

    Already does that
    6. ROUND FACE
It'd be a boring world if everything was the same.
    8. Kinetic charge from movement or user.
Addressing this is already in the pipeline - a magsafe charging strap powered by batteries to extend life. It's been explained above why kinetics won't work.

And it's very likely that more will be possible with the SDK, who knows?

I'd love for someone to point out a better smart watch, because I'm fairly sure one doesn't exist.

The Irish/US price difference in the new MacBook is chronic: $1300/$1600 vs €1500/€1800. I don't remember there been such a huge difference in the Dollar/Euro price on the Apple store before.

The new huawei watch looks better and includes everything the apple ones does oh it also has GPS. Oh and Wear will work with iPhones shortly. So your wrong.

The weaker Euro has caused that, it's dropped hugely so bound to affect US company prices.

Also don't forget that Irish prices include vat whereas American prices exclude US prices.

Except no one has actually interacted with the Huawei watch and or knows how long the battery lasts. It certainly looks a lot more traditional, but I think a smart watch doesn't need to look like a watch.

No one wants to bring their Phone running a GPS receiver is a MUST for a so called fitness watch. Its frankly a joke without it.
Actually if you look at most runners, novice runners especially, they will have their phone with them to listen to music while they run. I know some people refuse to take their phone with them, but they're in the minority in my experience.

Serious runners won't buy an Apple watch to take on a run as they'll already have a dedicated GPS watch, and always will. I agree that not including GPS seems like an unnecessary cutback, but I don't think it's that big an own goal; they're not excluding themselves from any large market segments.

Has anyone taken a look at the Euro watch prices on the German store and compared to the Stg pricing? It's a bit odd and I don't think it's down to a weaker Euro against the dollar example.

Example - the £519 model in Belfast is listed as €699 in Germany. However, doing an XE conversion on the 519 brings you about €730. And if you were to travel to the North you'd actu be paying more as that XE conversation doesn't take into account the bank / credit card currency conversion rate you'd be hit with. So if you bought up north you'd probably pay about €50 more on that model than the listed Euro price.

Is this usually the case for people who want to get something from Apple in Belfast? And is the Euro price for Ireland even going to be the same as the German price ?

The Irish price will probably be a bit higher than Germany. We have higher VAT and other costs.

Aye but if you have your phone with you it does everything the watch does, except measure your HR, and as you point out to novice runners this is a meaningless metric. So the Watch adds zero value to fitness above and beyond the phone, which you need to carry with you anyways.

These fitness watches only have value if they gather data independent of a phone and sync it back at a later date, like the Fitbit Charge HR for instance. Again a lack of GPS is a blight for it as well as you get into estimated stride lengths to calculate distance instead of actual values.

Long and the short of it the technology exists for the perfect smartwatch but the batteries don't so they are all piss poor compromises that try too hard to be too many things instead of trying to concentrate on doing a few things well. The new pebble is perhaps the best Smartwatch coming out soon, as it tries to do a few things well not be all things to all men.

Will it ever actually be sold in Ireland?
I can't see them letting Compub sell them.
Maybe if they do a deal with Brown Thomas.

They will be sold online here and I cannot see why CompuB won't get them.

Not so sure where the €17k will be sold but don't know if BT sell any Apple products and luxury watch manufacturers they already sell might block them.

I doubt Ireland will get any supply of the Edition watches. They will be most likely sold in the U.S., China and the U.A.E etc.

Well the electronics retailers in the US won't be selling them, only Apple stores and possibly Nordstrom, at least at launch.
Selfridges in London and Galleries LaFayette in Paris will also be selling them.

Yeah, you'll get one in Belfast in the Apple Store.
