Bought my 1987 ford escort in France 7 years ago.
I've restored it and I dry storing it for another while.
When I brought it in I paid the VRT got my irish number plates and put them on it, filled out the RF100.
However as I wasn't taxing it I declared it off the road (2008) and was told I'd get the log book on my 1st taxing of the vehicle.
Does anybody know how I go about 1st taxing the car and will there be back tax owed as a new system of declaring the car off the road came in since 2008.

    Any advice appreciated.

    Thank you

very real danger that they will want the back tax to 2008.

Change of ownership would wipe all that out of course.

maybe your wife or brother/uncle would like a new car?

they can alsways sell it back if they don't like it ;-)

Was thinking I was in danger of that alright. Id happily "sell" it to a family member alright but I don't have a log book, they said id get it with my 1st taxing of the car which has not happened yet.

You'll need form rf100, and here is what is says on that form....

Section E First Licence (Tax Disc) - Liability for Motor Tax
    i. Road Tax liability arises from the date the vehicle is first used in a public place after registration with the Revenue Commissioners. If your application for motor tax does
not commence from the date of registration because of non-use of the vehicle in a public place, please insert the period of non-use specified by you on Form RF150 –
Declaration of Non-Use of a Motor Vehicle (see note in section 1 above). Motor Tax Discs are issued for periods of 3, 6 or 12 whole calendar months and are not issued
in respect of months already elapsed. Vehicles with an annual Tax of €119 or less can only be taxed for a 12 month period.
ii. If arrears are due, enter in the boxes the start and end month of the arrears period and the relevant amount of money.
iii. Insert the commencement month/year and tick the relevant box for the tax disc period required. Insert the amount of the fee and complete the total box.

RF150 should have been used to declare it off road back when they first came out

he wants a form to sell the vehicle, not a form to tax it.

Yes. I have the RF100 from when I was paying the vrt. It seems "selling" it would be the way around it. Can't tax it to get log book without insurance. I'll ring the tax office on Monday and see what they say. Thanks for your help :)

Rang up the tax office, they were very helpful.
So when how you declare a car off the road system changed I should have went to the tax office a few years ago, as I didn't I owe tax back to 2008, like €5,000. So a family member is buying the car and the paper work is being sent out by the tax office, it will then be declared off the road properly for the next 2 years.
Thanks for all the replies. :)
