We should be cut off towards the end of March so this is perfect for us. Only thing is we would have to sign up as a new customer. Is it better to keep my name and change the address slightly, or use my wifes name? :-)

I was telling my brother about this deal last night and he said his wife rang up sky before to cancel and was told she would have to wait 1 year before someone else at the same address could apply to become a sky customer, surely that can't be right?

Presumably that waiting period only applies if you want the "new customer" discount.

I know a guy who has two sky accounts in the one house. Same address just different names. Those "rules" are rarely enforced. You just have to avoid having the same bank details, which is easily done.

I am out of contract at present. If you cancel and order using the groupon voucher how long does it take to get the new contract up and running? Also what happens existing sky boxes etc?

As soon as an installer is in your area week or 2 normally
All boxes and remotes are yours to keep

Sky+HD boxes generally go for 30-40 euro on Adverts with remotes so worth flogging them on and getting brand new boxes in -warranty.

Only downside is you'll lose recordings.

    Cheers OP

Am currently out of Contract with UPC

This deal is great for me, Sky TV and Sport and UPC Broadband is 87PM

My current package of the same with UPC is 117PM thats a saving of 30PM

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

Older boxes are great for free to air channels, I have 3 set up in other rooms, the new box I had wouldn't show free to air when I took out the card, even with an english one put in
I think they changed the boxes to stop this, if anyone knows how to get the new boxes to show fta let me know

    Just wondering...

How do I actually apply with the Groupon...Do I call Sky?

A friend of mine moved out of where he was sharing and cancelled the sky as it was in his name. He was told they wouldnt allow a resumption at that address for 12 months.

It's total bollocks. They'd tell you anything to stop you from cancelling.

Long post but everything you need to know. I got this deal last September when they were running it. My boyfriend had the sky on his name so he cancelled that and I took it out in my name. Just said that I was after moving into the house so no prob with having to wait 12 months or what not. I bought the voucher, rang up sky, I was getting the whole lot, variety, movies, sports & hd! Was €45.50 a month then. I got refunded the €9 on my first bill. I had to pay a €10 deposit when I signed up & also got that back in first bill! We already had a sky dish outside so the installer took it down and put up a new one, we had the old box still on the sitting room as when bf cancelled his contract you had to give 30 days notice so we still had it active for that long. The installer is just a local guy who works for sky so wasn't botherec about old box still connected! If you don't want to keep the package or the movies sporys extra you have to ring 11 months into contract if you want it cancelled at 12 months otherwise you will pay full wack for 1 month! Got new box and the whole lot! I was thinking the deal was too good and that there was a catch but there 100% is not! Only thing I don't like is one Saturday every month I get a text at 8 in the morning telling me how much my bill is and when it will be debited from my account even though it's the same every month! Both my family & boyfriends family & friends got this deal. Some legit new customers some cancelled and took out new contract! I say go for it!

NC12 did you have no sky when waiting to get connected in your name or did the contract overlap??

So what would Sky do if you sold the house and someone new moved and they rang Sky and said they wanted to sign up?
    Couldn't see Sky saying No!

Not strictly true unless you forget entirely and as you rightly pointed out Sky send a text advising what the next month's bill will be so there's no excuse really for anyone forgetting to cancel.

If anyone did forget to cancel for a week or two Sky only charge for the number of days the service was used so it wont break the bank if there is a lapse of memory :)

We had sky, just the variety bundle and it was in my boyfriends name. When he rang and cancelled it was active for 30/31 days after so the two actually lapsed for about 2 weeks after I got the new one installed.

Yes that's true. I know when my boyfriend had the sky in his name he didn't get any texts each month so it could slip someone's mind. I will prpb forget when it's 11 months as I will be so used to getting the texts!

The texts seem to be a fairly new thing as I only started receiving them about 3 or 4 months ago

I had never heard of anyone getting them until I did but everyone I knew with sky had it years. I know some people of they don't use online banking aren't really sure of their direct debits dates so they are handy that way but seriously 8 o clock on a Saturday morning is annoying as its my day off & hoping for another hour or two sleep.

Or log into Mysky and de-select the option allowing them to contact you or ring them and ask them to stop.

Just signed up to the groupon offer tonight and logged on to Sky with the code to see how much it would cost per month - comes to 36.50 Euro for Sky Variety, HD Pack, Sky Movies, Sky Sports and Sky+HD box. There's also a 10 Euro advance fee (which presumably is refunded along with the 9 euro group on voucher). You then have the option to buy extras, but you pretty much have everything already.

Sounds too good to be true, eh? I'll be putting the order through with Sky during the week, so hopefully there are no catches, but based on previous posters experiences, it should be OK.

It's actually 46.50, the 10euro deposit comes off your first bill. Still a really good price.

Don't know how I missed that last night. Still, as you say, €46.50c is a fantastic price and I would definitely have gone for it at that price anyway. Thanks WW!

Does the 50% off code work if ordering the Variety pack alone does anyone know?

I'd go for that, no interest in the Sports or Movies packs though
