Class innings from Sanga, just turned the game.

Ton up for Sangakkara. That's both guys in the middle past the century - no need to hold back for either of them now, so I'd assume they'll open up a little

No need to open up, just a sensible batting will walk them through.

They've both got tons, they've got 9 wickets left... no reason not to open up. I'm not talking about slogging, just looking to find that extra few here and there

Yeah I know but I don't see the point in slogging when they are finding it very easy to score runs.

Perfect way to end it! What's going on with England at all

Masterclass from SL on how to pace a chase a 300 plus score.....about as one sided as Ireland's chase against the WI!!

England will do well to qualify out of this group now ...... will now be relying on the weather and other results ..... Remember the Bangers are a point ahead given the washout against Australia

Broad and Anderson have looked awful and their persistence with Ballance at 3 is baffling

As one of the commentators was saying if England don't qualify from a group that has Scotland , Afghanistan and Bangladesh they might as well give up playing cricket

Can they give us Morgan back for the Quarters then?

Its not asking a lot for them to beat Afghanistan and Bangladesh to be fair. They will be fine. However agreed with rest of points, Broad has been dire.

They could have experimented a little today and sent Buttler up the order but to conservative for England.

Pakistan six down. Still would prefer to see them win this one narrowly

Dunno what good that will do for Ireland given the form he has been in ..... Ireland doing fine without him

Indeed. BBR would be preferrable at this stage

    Pak 235/7

From 127/5 Pakistan probably ended up with a bit more than they should have but Zimbabwe can win this if they bat sensibly

..... And Adridi should bat at no:11 hereafter I reckon

Chigumbura could be a big loss for zim

Great bowling from irfan, real agressive tight stuff and duly gets a wicket

Agree.......The sliver lining for England is that if they beat the Bangers and the Afghans and India don't slip up in their remaining group matches it looks increasingly likely it will be an India v England quarterfinal at the MCG

Despite India's recent return to form they are probably the only 'big' team England have a decent chance against

And if you ask the Indians they would probably prefer playing Sri Lanka in the QF's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,630 ✭✭✭pelevin

Well I won my modest bet on Sri Lanka beating England. Looks like SL didn't find it a very stressful chase.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

    Zim 74/2 in the 21......

This match bubbling up nicely ......

If they can see off the tall leftie without any further damage Zimbabwe have a real chance....

All other things being equal, assuming no rain intervention and other results go based on rankings, a Zimbabwe victory leaves Ireland needing to beat Zimbabwe or Pakistan. I reckon a Pakistan victory possibly leaves Ireland needing to beat Zimbabwe and Pakistan (although WI will be in the equation at that stage and their net RR becomes important)

100 needes off 19 overs. Its all about wickets now. Wonder if Chigumbura will be able to bat

Williams gone. Wicket given away cheaply

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

    Pak favourites now I think

How many no-balls are these umpires are missing? At least two that haven't been given in Zimbabwe's innings

I thought Zim had it about 12 overs ago, but they've just let it slip away.

Actually didn't realise just how poor Pakistan's NRR is, and it's not going to improve much if at all today. They have the UAE to play but Ireland probably only need to avoid some real hammerings from SA or India to keep well ahead on that front. However the chances are if Pakistan win today and Ireland beat Zimbabwe, if Pakistan beat Ireland in the last match in the group they will be level on points and NRR will determine which of the 2 go through.

A very tight finish, this is ideal for Ireland.

Another front foot no ball missed..... What are the umpires up to??!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 243 ✭✭jonnygiles

Absolute shoddy umpiring here it has to be said think there should have been 2 wides on height for the first two balls in the 49th over and wasnt that last delivery a no-ball?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

Pakistan lucky to get away with that......

Too much for Chigumbara to do on his own ...... Zimbabwe will reflect on what might have been had the middle order held their nerve

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 692 ✭✭✭res ipsa

Pakistan win by 20 runs. Hopefully we meet a demoralized ZIM on Saturday in Hobart.

Absolutely ridiculous that the 3rd umpire sees the replay that we are all seeing but yet is not allowed to correct an on field blunder

    Absolutely

Pakistan play UAE next and should be able to make up some ground with the RR then

Ireland play SA next and need to ensure they don't get thrashed out of sight like the WI

Maybe the ICC need to look at teams being able to challenge decisions for wide/no-ball deliveries, more than likely Pakistan would have still won but it would have been a closer finish if at least one of those decisions were given.

Pakistans run rate at -1.37 so we have a decent lead over them right now. Hopefully De Villiers smashes the Pakistan bowling to keep that rate low and we put up decent performances against India and South Africa

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭booth70

No matches scheduled tomorrow ..... bizarre given that there is already a month between matches in a tournament that features 14 teams the ICC have deemed that all the teams need a rest after the exertions of the first 2 weeks!!!!

  • Administrators, Social & Fun Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 78,380 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Beasty

Lakmal fined 30% of his match fee for the incident resulting in him being stopped from bowling during the last over agains England earlier - 2nd high full-pitched ball against Jos Buttler in the over

All the ICC needs to do is to empower the TV umpire to overrule an on field howler without the need for the players to get involved

Things like no balls and stuff can be corrected in a matter of seconds without disrupting the flow or wasting time
