Where did you get the years placement?

Hopefully those ranked in the 200s like me will eventually get something.

As far as I can see the higher you rank the quicker you get called. But I could only get 8 week summer contract whereas someone lower in the list could possibly get a longer contact later in the year. Correct me if I'm wrong!

I know someone called for an interview in December 2014 and it was only for 5 weeks but she did not take as the contract she had was until March this year.

I was lucky as I came from the 2013 reserve panel and got two separate contracts with Revenue one for 41 weeks and one for 14 weeks so over a year in total.
I dealt with the Household Charge.

I hope I'd get offered more than 5 weeks. How did you get two separate contracts? I thought once you got offered something you got struck off the list

The first was till December 19th and as the permanent staff were not starting till end of March they could not have a 3 month gap with nobody working in the section so it was extended.

Public Jobs played no part in the offering of the second contract.

I'm in the low 2000s as well for Dublin. Clearly I wouldn't be cut out for dealing with the nonsense scenarios that were in the online test :pac:

Just got placed in donegal top 10 but i read that they held interviews last week based on last years reserve list. Does anyone know how much this will hinder the intake for future interviews?

Yea the whole balance of wheather you should rat the other CO s out, mind your own business, annoy your EO or make some women cry because she's avoiding a question over her grant stuff was all a bit silly

Place 1862 in Dublin, clearly I lack the social aptitude for a career in the public service, I'll see myself out...

Fear not - it all makes perfect sense. I'm waiting to see if I get called for an interview for EO. The higher I apply the better I do in these things.
So I'm going to buy a new suit and apply for Sec Gen jobs. This involves eating jaffa cakes, avoiding responsibility and delegating. All of which I do extremely well.

Your ranked no:15 in Cork in comparison to all other applicants, so you technically did better than everyone except 14 people In cork.

You'll probably get a summer contract of 8, 10 or 13 weeks duration.

I'm in the 140s for Cork. Hopefully far enough down the list to avoid a 10 week summer contract in Revenue.

Can anyone explain how this works, and why some people are suggesting it might be better to get offered something later rather than sooner? Or that it might be better to be further down the list?

There is a chance of a longer contract if your further down the list. Not as long as the contract I got as I don't think that will happen again.

Civil servants can take what's called term time. Term time is leave taken in the summer when your kids are off from school. I think term time can vary from 8 to 13 weeks. Summer holidays are just around the corner so anyone at the top of their county panels will probably be offered term time positions.

There is a greater chance of getting a longer term position after the Summer when all this shorter term time work is out of the way.

So if you get offered a position to cover "Term Time" - say 8/10 weeks - does this preclude you from any further employment? Surely, if you do a decent job on a short term contract, you stand a better chance of being kept on in a different/longer term contract? Am I being naïve? First time applicant, placed 12th in Limerick.

You could get an extra 10 weeks if you do term time.

I did not do term time but got a 41 week contract and subsequently a 14 week contract until permanent staff were hired.

your are not precluded from further employment and can apply for permanent roles when they come up.That's a long way off though.

Most TCOs assigned to cover term time will only get term time. It could be extended but that's up to the department and it's needs.

I was placed 8th in Dublin, it would be nice if the higher ranks got the longer contracts. But that's me just being selfish :)

Did everyone get same email regardless of place on panel?

'In the event of sufficient vacancies arising during your stated availability, we may be calling you for interview at a later stage. Should you be among those to be invited, we will be emailing you giving you details of your interview location, date and time.

People invited to interview will be determined by the number of vacancies received throughout the year. We do not have advance knowledge of the number of vacancies that may arise in any location.'

The panel resets once the new people are interviewed. You'll be in a strong position to get a temp role, being a top 10.

The fact they interviewed people last week is irrelevant. They must have run out of people from the panel they made last year and had to interview a few reserve panel people for open temp vacancies.

I'm already working as a TCO at the moment. I don't want to be called when I'm already in a TCO position because if I turn it down I'm out of the competition.

Getting called from September onwards would suit me much better.

Also, I'd rather be called for a position longer than term time.

Hi Tippguy, I was placed 33rd, but having read some of the comments about possibility of longer term contracts if placed lower down the scale, now I'm not so sure 33 is all its cracked up to be

I got placed 34th in Waterford - Hoping that's good :) but I am just wondering if you do well in the interview can you move further up the panel or is it just a paper work exercise and you slot into the next available position.

You keep your position and you just get the next available job.

I think you can only move up if other people move off the list - don't think there are any points awarded for the interview itself. Although I'm open to correction if anyone has heard otherwise?

At 34 I'd say you're all but guaranteed something as long as you get through the interview (mine last year was less than 5 minutes so I wouldn't be too worried). Well done :)

I might have a problem with the recent work reference :( I left my full time job 10 years ago to raise the kids. All I've been doing since in part time waitressing. I have management experience and a degree but the fact that I've been out of full time professional work for 10 years....is this going to go against me?

Got an interview for next weekend aswell. I wouldn't be too worried about the reference. From what I've heard, there's very little to the interview, they're just checking out that you are who you say you are and that you are relatively competent with operating computers, dealing with the public etc. Best of luck to all.
