    What is the best save as for open office writer 4 to have people sent files created with OO be able to open with Word. is it .odt?

    I'd suggest the option "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP"

    More modern versions of MS Word still understand .doc files from Word 97 etc. I don't have Word installed so I can't say if they read .odt files
