Ravens had their last two OTA sessions cancelled, John Harbaugh fined 50k and owner Steve Bisciotti fined 100k. The reason was breaching rules on pass contact

It's not a huge story but anyway this is the third time this has happened Harbaughs team. In 2016 they also lost OTA sessions due to breaching rules on rookies wearing pads. And in 2010 other practice rules were breached
As I remember in 2010 it was the player union rep who raised it. Rookies are not going to speak up and likely would not even know the rules so the union rep raises it.

I can understand how it gets forgotton and an oversight may happen. You can always assign a graduate intern to monitor. But three times is deliberate, I don't know what Harbaugh is trying to achieve. I don't hear the other 31 teams doing this

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,495 ✭✭✭✭Billy86

At three strikes they really need to be looking at removing draft picks or barring him from the sidelines for a few games. On this precisen, it's basically just telling teams they can do as they like with regard to this and face very little in terms consequences even if they're caught three times at it.

And he's blaming the players this time. Great impression for the rookies.

If it were a certain someone else or other team the world would end am I right? ESPN and JRG would blow their loads massively :pac:

I love him and hate him at the same time. I think he is a very good coach but I also think he gets muddled up in the grey areas all too often with bending the rules. The whole thing with the Pats that time. Gives out profusely because he didn't know the Pats were within their right and then ends up using the same play. I always wonder does he think he is a master at it also but fails miserably at doing it.

What's the rule on padded OTA's?

Is he basically saying he'd prefer 1 padded OTA than 3 in gym gear?

The money is fairly irrelevant to a NFL team

    Off Season Rules

    General
    • Workouts cannot begin prior to the first Monday in April for clubs with a new head coach or the third Monday in April for all other clubs
    • Workouts are strictly voluntary; Club officials cannot indicate workouts are anything other than voluntary
    • Maximum 4 w/o per week (no weekends), with one week being the mandatory minicamp (not permitted on weekends)
    • Contact work is prohibited in all workouts (e.g. "live" blocking, tackling, pass rushing, bump-and-run, etc.)
    • Intensity and tempo of drills should be at a level conducive to learning, with player safty as the highest priority.

    Phase One | 4 hours a day
    • Two weeks | Limited to strength and conditioning activities ("dead ball"); only strength and conditioning coaches allowed on field*
    • 90 minute max on the field
    • Clubs can only specify 2 hours for players to be at the facility
    • Players choose the other 2 hours for weights, etc.

    Phase Two | 4 hours a day
    • Three weeks | same rules as phase one apply except:
    • All coaches allowed on the field
    • Individual and “perfect play” drills allowed
    • No offense vs. defense, no one - on - one, no helmets

    • During Weeks 1 & 2 a 4th non OTA workout is allowed but phase two rules apply
    • A maximum of 4 OTA’s for the 3rd or 4th week
    • One week for mini camp
    • No pads except protective knee and elbow pads, helmets are permitted

    • 7 on 7, 9 on 7 and 11 on 11 drills will be permitted provided no live contact takes place

    Minicamp | 10 hours a day
    • Physicals on Monday but no practice
    • Practices Tuesday-Thursday, with a day off on friday
    • Allowed two practices totaling 3 ½ Hours on the field per day
    • Second practice limited to walk through activities only

    * Dead Ball Explanation:
-QBs can throw to receivers with no coverage
-Kickers and Punters can kick, but players cannot field the ball and no snappers or holders can be involved
-Long Snappers can snap into a net
-Defensive players may not catch balls at all regardless of who is throwing them.

TO not going to attend his induction ceremony into the HOF.
While I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity, I have made the decision to publicly decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton. I have already shared this information with the Hall. After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wish to celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life, elsewhere. At a later date, I will announce where and when I will celebrate my induction.

To add all the BS Stems from this guy calling the Edelman suspension Redditlover1981

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Patriots/comments/8p6uh7/rumor_edelman_potentially_getting_suspended_for_4/

Someone then follow his lead with this nonsense
I’m the guy who broke the Edelman news last night...and I’ve got more MAJOR patriots news...

I’ve actually been sitting on some bigger patriots news for the past few days, still trying to verify that it’s 100% true before putting it out there...Regardless I plan to post it here tomorrow evening.

BUT I figured last night was kind of fun, and instead of waiting until tomorrow...maybe we can play a game?

If one of you guesses the news EXACTLY correct I will go ahead and post it now and give credit to you.

HINT: the news is negative and it’s about a current multi year patriot

    https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/06/07/someone-posted-the-julian-edelman-suspension-news-on-reddit-yesterday/

EDIT: Everyone (with the exception of 1 person) is thinking pretty similar with suspension/retirement guesses. Think outside the box

Barstool sports bit on it first and everyone else followed and the rumour mill went into overdrive

Now look the admission from the original reddit guy

    Redditlover1981
    Score hidden·

There is no news! I have zero sources. I’m just some random bozo on the internet that was able to fool national media outlets (listed below), into taking me seriously.

Why? To prove journalism in 2018 is an absolute joke. I literally guessed on the Edelman news and when it would be reported. As soon as i saw some random beat writer on twitter say “I’ve got bad news about the patriots”, I took a wild guess about Edelman and posted it to Reddit. Anyways I’m sure the patriots fans here will be a mix of happy there’s nothing negative and anger for being lied to. When I first made the post I thought “oh this will just be funny if it ends up being correct”, and that would be the end of it. But then things changed to be more about trolling the media than you guys...

I wake up the next day to the Edelman news breaking, and NBC’s profootballtalk (among others) writing serious articles about me, speculating that I was an ESPN employee. Even local Boston radio stations were talking about me as if I’m some sort of vigilante. After laughing hysterically for awhile, I decided to see how far I could take this. I thought the best move would be to build hype around a new story coming out, and see if people actually would continue to take me seriously. Sure enough, they have. My inbox has blown up, everything from fans to freelance journalists asking me for tips. All when IM JUST A RANDOM DUDE, I SHOULDN'T BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.

Anyways the point is...national media, do better. Don’t take some random guys word on the internet. Sorry to the people of this sub, but hopefully you’ll get some enjoyment out of the hysteria that this caused.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2780083-anonymous-reddit-user-broke-julian-edelman-suspension-news-on-wednesday.amp.html

So easy these days to create rumours about the Patriots because people know the media and fans will go into mass hysteria over drive and not actually do any fact checking and believe everything they hear and read.

I'm fairly certain that the NFL don't disclose the exact PED and we're reliant on player statements which is why so many positives are said to be Adderall as it's not as bad for PR.

Not even just the Patriots, but in sports in general due to the nature of the internet.

Worse i'm nearly sure, i've a GTX 1050ti which is the 2017 entry level GPU from Nvidia. The 660 is the 2016 version if i remember right.

Mine is on a laptop and runs PES fine and the FIFA 18 Demo, never bought the full game. I have to say though that for me anyway sports games like FIFA/PES and Madden are console games. Big screen, chilled out on the couch with a few friends playing is the only way to go.

Unless the modding scene takes off and we see huge improvements on Madden for PC i won't be going for it.

EDIT: Just checked, the 660 is a high end GPU from a good few years back not entry level.

Any of the following are about in line with a GTX 660: GTX 950, GTX 1050, GTX 760, RX 460, RX 560.

Ireland is usually a terrible place for buying computer parts and I'd keep an eye on ebay UK so long as delivery costs from there are low, but weirdly enough one of the best places I've seen for second hand graphics cards is adverts.ie so that's also worth a look. Here's a 460 going for €80 on Adverts just posted yesterday - https://www.adverts.ie/graphics-cards/rx-460-2gb-graphics-card/15325707

Cards also hold their value well so if you went to sell that on in a year you'd probably get €50+ for it. I have bought three of them second hand (one for me, two for gifts) and they've all worked perfectly. They're a safe item to buy second hand as people are always upgrading to newer, stronger and fancier ones.

Long story short without boring you to death, the bitcoin mining that has been so popular for 18 months or so uses graphics cards and their 'VRAM' (basically RAM for visuals because there's so much going on graphically in games these days) so the costs skyrocketed, but in the last 2-3 months they've been coming back to normal as people are moving on from it or buying new parts. Because of this a good few cards are coming about nice and cheap second hand as well as newer models being set for release probably over the summer, I'd expect even more going for low prices second hand by July or August if you're OK to wait.

I would say it is probably best to avoid a 660 or 760, simply because they're older and require more power for the same output. This isn't so much about bills as just making sure the power supply in your computer can handle the increased demand. The 460, 950 and 1050 (and 1050 TI which is the best bet if you have any inkling towards some kind of racing game or the odd GTA title or whatever because it has 4GB VRAM instead of 2GB, and performs a bit stronger than the 460/560s which also come in 2GB or 4GB) all use incredibly little power, about the same as adding in an additional hard drive or two, so they're a good safe bet - the 560 and 950 also only use a small bit more (about 75W vs 90W) so those should also be grand. A 660 would use 140W, and a 760 uses 170W so it might be best to avoid those two models.

Remember though PC graphics are a lot stronger than console graphics, so even getting a mix of low/medium graphics on a PC will often match or even exceed those on a regular Xbox or PS4. In other words, anything that meets min requirements to get you up and running will work well unless you've got a particularly keen eye for graphics and such (I don't and genuinely can't tell the difference most of the time). The 1050s and 460s/560s also create extremely little heat which is good as if you've a normal desktop I'd imagine it's not set up for having a roasting how giant card inside of it (airflow, etc).

Make sure your processor can handle it though (post it here and I'll let you know). Any i5 or i7 2XXX series or higher should have no problem, same for an i3 4XXX or higher, or one of the Pentium chips I listed. The Pentium chips are an anomaly in that games should not work on them due to only having 2 cores, but long story short... they do. The 460 is probably the weakest of the cards listed above, and here is how it plays FIFA 18 (same engine, developer etc as Madden so a good barometer) with a G4560 which is probably the weakest processor, so this would be about the worst you would expect - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KQma-r0QNU

    Hope this helps.

That's also kind of true, I use my PC with a projector which has entirely replaced the TV so I'm kind of cheating :p . Though if Pat were inclined he'd just need a HDMI wire to pop it into the PC and a TV (or stick with the monitor), and could get a £20 Logitech controller off Amazon (just suggesting since I can't play anything beyond a strategy game on keyboard and mouse) and reckon sports games would be a fecking nightmare on them.

I think it's the 1050Ti that's in my laptop (XPS15 9560) with an i7 but (I'd mentioned it in another thread recently) it plays even mild games like stuttery crap. Never really bothered me as the only ones I bought were There Golf Club 2, PES18, and FM18, which were all rubbish anyway but I would have liked to have given Madden a go. Haven't played it since one of the PS2 versions.

That’s odd, I’ve the same card and an i7 as well and no stuttering in any of the games I have. Fans are noisy allright but never had any issue. Played PES18, GTAV with mods, PUBG and loads more with no issue.

Not trying to be a dick, but there are no other Chiefs fans here as best I know (or as good as none) - if it were NE, GB or a few others you would have had a few responses by now. I can barely recall 3-4 other teams' drafts outside of GB's in much detail, and frankly when if it ever jumps into my mind that "I wonder how [other team] did in the draft again, I forgot?" I just do as RDS suggested and google a few reviews of it. Actually makes for excellent, quick toilet reading along with free agency! :)
