Elliptical trainers

Does anybody know anything about elliptical trainers? I'm looking to buy one for Mrs TPP, was looking at some in Elvwrys, but really know nothing about them. Would a €300 machine be ok or like treadmills, is it worth paying for the bigger more expensive machines?
