Joanna's striking is superb. Excellent takedown defense too. A thoroughly deserved win.

In fairness, Esparza was reaching like crazy and telegraphed everything. A real bizarre title fight.

Hugely overestimated Esparza. Very one dimentional with zero stand up.

I would love to see a stand up war between Joanna and JoJo! What about in scotland too?!!!!!

I can't believe how bad she was tonight. Not at all how I imagined things would go. Joanna did her homework on her weak spots alright
and my God did it pay off.

She would probably give her a better fight than Esparza though.

Seeing his brother get his head knocked off earlier in the night has to affect Pettis somewhat. Still expect him to win by UD.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,590 ✭✭✭The White Feather

I think there could be a new champ here.......

Outstanding first round from Dos Anjos, but there's no way he can take the fight to Pettis like that for 5 rounds. Pettis needs to hang around for another 2 rounds and then try and take control and possibly go for a finish.

Demolition job by Dos Anjos so far. 2 rounds up.

Witnessesing something amazing here ala TJ v Barao

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,698 ✭✭✭Gumbi

He's always had a problem getting backed up against the fence. Now he's facing someone who can not only back him up, but hit him hard and take him down AND not get subbed in the process.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭stiffler123

Pettis needs the finish now. Dos Anjos 3 rounds up.

Don't agree with that. TJ was an enormous underdog and written off by pretty much everyone. Dos Anjos isn't an unknown quantity, there's no doubt about his class. Pettis knew he would cause problems.

I disagree we might have know RDA was good but he's steamrolling Pettis here this was 100% never in any bodies minds.

That round had one of the best technical submission escapes I've seen in a long time. Was certain the fight was over.

Did Sergio's loss earlier play a factor I wonder?

    And the new....:D

Really enjoyable night of fights. Thank Christ I have no reason to be up early tomorrow. Goodnight lads!

Incredible performance and definitely a new champ! Only thing I don't like about the result is that Khabib or Cerrone will have to wait a while for their title fight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,651 ✭✭✭stiffler123

Fantastic performance by RDA, dominated every round. I hope Pettis doesn't get an insta rematch, he's not deserving of one after that.

Easy to say that now. Certainly a fight I'd like to see but let him win the FW belt first. ;)

I taught conor would have beaten pettis before this fight ,but it would have been a hard fight for him. But after this fight dare i say it he would whoop him. All of that aside though pettis just didn't look like he normally does saying that do he just doesn't do well being pressured

No real standout for FOTN, Probably be 4 POTN bonuses? Would love to see Duffy get one.

    Shocked by Pettis RDA.

World Tour annouced for Aldo/McGregor and Rory/Robbie, going to 8 cities, Dublin one of them!

Duffy misses out on POTN bonus but Dana says in Presser he'll be getting a bonus check too.

"the lightweight Anderson Silva" my arse.

Excellent fight and performance by RDA, but Pettis made it quite easy for him. Very little output, never really attacked. His game plan of standing in the orthodox stance was clearly not working on it, and they didn't really have a plan B.

Best of luck to Dana and Co, promoting Khabib vs RDA for the title!

Not massively shocked, I said before that RDA had a chance at a decision. We knew Pettis' TDD isn't great and he wasn't gonna submit him off his back. I'm surprised how easily he took him down and how big a strength advantage he had though.

Pettis still beats Conor, let's not get silly.

In fairness, the Anthony Pettis that fought last night against RDA, showed very little that would cause too much trouble any tier 1 fighter.

So all of a sudden he can't trouble any tier 1 fighter despite being regarded as one of the best P4P fighters up until last night? McGregor - Pettis would be a completely different fight to RDA - Pettis.

Try rereading the post mate. Clearly said that if he fought like he did LAST NIGHT then he would not trouble any top level fighters. I'm absolutely not saying he is **** all of a sudden. Just that last nights performance was not even related to how a champion defends his title.

If Pettis fought like that against the likes of McGregor, Aldo, Khabib, Bendo, Cowboy, the result would not be too far from what happen last night.

    Khabib called it

    http://www.mmafighting.com/2015/3/9/8048747/khabib-nurmagomedov-rafael-dos-anjos-will-smash-anthony-pettis
I think [dos Anjos] smashes [Pettis] in striking and I think he smashes him on the ground," Nurmagomedov told MMAFighting.com earlier this month at the Los Angeles FitExpo, where he was helping run seminars for the Paradise Warrior Retreat program. "This is my opinion. I don't know why, but I think he'll smash him..

Does anyone know what sort of stuff will be involved at this? I see it's listed as a Fan Event.

Probably a Q&A and some photo ops you'd imagine.

Brilliant main card from start to finish. More of that please, UFC!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,913 ✭✭✭JacksonHeightsOwn

has there ever been a more one sided beat down in a UFC title fight before?

I know guys have been knocked out, but RDA gave Pettis an absolute hiding. It was so one sided, in "street" talk, he got the head boxed off him

Well done to Dos Anjos, pure hard work paid off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,443 ✭✭✭califano

Yeah the fight before that one Esparza getting beaten by Jedrzejczyk
