Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Good price. I got min on Ebay - came from Donegal, but I'm sure I paid more than that.

If anyone is looking for one in Argos, keep an eye on

Great to see these available on the high street. We've come a long way from the days when you'd have to order from over seas and people would ask if it was Austin Power's 'love pump'.

Wonderful gadget - I take it on hols - guaranteed decent cup of coffee in the hotel room, and much less messy than a cafetiere.

Does it take a lot of force to get the coffee in the cup?

It shouldn't require that much force, try a slightly coarser grind. You using paper or metal filter?

I don't have one. Was thinking ordered one in Argos and waiting for it.

Im not sure what ground coffee Ill be using, I won't be grinding it anyway.

Just thought Id ask since in videos people look like their using a lot of force. I was concerned I might smash a mug.

It takes a fair bit of force all right. But so what? I usually sit it on a little metal jug and pour the coffee into the cups from there.

Hi all, ye need to try the Inverted Method (if ye haven't already) ... Much nicer/stronger cup of coffee

I was finding (with the regular way) that the water was practically gone through by the time I had finished stirring

I know they give you zillions of filters with this thing when you buy it, but has anyone tried buying replacements?

The stainless steel filters are the business.

Christ how long are you stirring for. I find the best cup comes from one or two smooth but quick stirs to get everything of the bottom

How much difference does the steel disk make?

Hard to precisely measure but I find the metal disc gives a more full bodied drink. I prefer metal over paper as it also allows more oils through. Maybe I just had too many dirty bodied French press coffees in my early years.

    I think I'll order one.

There was an online shop in Kerry \Cork selling them a couple of years back who were cheaper than most (domestic postage and the small size help).

In terms of taste fluctuation / coffee used - can anyone help with the difference between the standard metal filter and the fine metal filter?

    https://www.justcoffee.ie/shop/accessories/able-disk-coffee-filter/ €13.95

    https://www.justcoffee.ie/shop/accessories/able-disk-fine-coffee-filter/ €16.95

    Thanks in advance

The finer the holes the less oils and solids will transfer to the mug.
The standard metal with larger mesh holes would produce a more full bodied cup.

Perfect, thanks GH. On that recommendation, I'll go with the standard then.

Would a hand grinder work with this?

Yes, it's a very good pairing for a travel pack!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,273 ✭✭✭CantGetNoSleep

Anyone in particular you would recommend for both travel and odd home use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,396 ✭✭✭PPC

The Porlex hand grinder fits perfectly inside the plunger of the aero press, its almost like its been designed for it.
Probably the best bet if you want a neat travel solution.

Argos.ie doesn't recognise the catalogue number.

    Could only find a web-only, no stock-check entry for E37.69 - argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/1472259.htm

No E22 Aeropress for me. :(

GBP 22 for aeropress on its own on Amazon UK. You'll need to bump the order over £25 for free shipping. They have an aeropress with extra filters for GBP26.
Exchange rate is pants against GBP at the moment

Best bet might be picking one up locally in the likes of Coffee Angel.
