Only accepting answers from series 1-8.Must include a few quotes.

Mine would be 'Homer Badman' where Homer is wrongly accused of sexual assault on the babysitter.

    "
Kent Brockman: (on TV) Simpson scandal update - Homer sleeps nude in an oxygen tank which he believes gives him sexual powers.
    Homer: Hey, that's a half-truth

Godfrey: So, Mr. Simpson, you admit you grabbed her can. What do you have to say in your defense? (we see a still video shot of Homer looking lustful) Mr. Simpson, your silence will only incriminate you further! (the frozen image of Homer begins to slowly zoom in) No, Mr. Simpson, don't take your anger out on me! Get back! Get back! M-Mr. Simpson! NOOOO! (freeze frames on the screaming Godfrey)

The one where side show bob steps on the rakes,I thought was hilarious. Otherwise not really that into it to have a favourite.

The MonoRail one or the Hank Scorpio.

There were some brilliant episodes up until at least series 12 e.g. Max Power, Sanitation commisioner, Behind the laughter, etc.

Also the first two series are not even remotely funny. Broaden your range op.

Season 2 was good imo. 1 was poor. After season 10 its a sudden drop in quality

It has to be "You Only Live Twice" (Scorpio). So many classic lines. Ever see a man say goodbye to a shoe?

Second is Australia. You call that a knife?

Homer Badman, Homer and Apu, Homer The Vigilante to name but three...

    I love seasons 3-10.

Edit - and Lisa The Iconoclast of course!

The baseball one with Darl Strawberry and the rest of the major leaguer's is brilliant!
    Almost every line I'd gold!!

Fully agreed. Quality dipped gradually - it wasn't the overnight occurrence some say took place.
    Behind The Laughter is amazing.

My favourite episodes though are from 1-8:

Lisa and Bart playing for rival hockey teams.

Homer becoming head of the union.

Watched both recently after not seeing them for a few years. Brilliance beyond belief.

Yeah Season 2 had some very good episodes. "Simpson and Delilah", "Itchy and Scratchy and Marge", "Lisa's substitute" being a few that spring to mind. Only criticism is the writers didn't seem to have figured out that Bart wasn't funny yet.

I think "Lisa vs Malibu Stacy" and "Fear of flying" are my favourites overall.

So many favorites moments but my favorite episode has to be when he fights dredrig tatum and slipping getting into the ring :D

Also when bob is after bart an hes edgey in bed and home bursts in BART U WANNA SEE MY NEW CHAIN SAW AND HAWKEY MASK :D

    Sheer brilliance..

The episode with Frank Grimes (or Grimey, as he liked to be called) is a masterpiece.

Grimey- "You've been up in space".
    Homer- "Sure. You've never been?"

Homer- "Want to see my Grammy?"

I don't have a particular favourite episode but rather particular scenes from episodes. Family guy will never beat Simpsons

The first few seasons were a bit raw and the animation and voices were a bit off. After Season 8 it started its long slow terminal decline. In between though was the golden age and I think Season 4 was when it reached its zenith. Some of the episodes from that one season:

Last Exit to Springfield (the one where Homer organises a strike to win back the dental plan)

    The Mr Plow episode

    The Monorail episode

    The "Whacking Day" episode

    Children:
Oh, Whacking Day, Oh, Whacking Day,
    Whacking Day
    Our hallowed snake skull cracking-Day.

    Soloist:
    We'll break their backs,
    Gouge out their eyes,
    Their evil hearts
    We'll pulvarize.

    Children:
Oh, Whacking Day, Oh, Whacking Day,
May God bestow His Grace on thee.

    Season 4,episode 3

Homer Simpson: I'm not a bad guy! I work hard, and I love my kids. So why should I spend half my Sunday hearing about how I'm going to hell?

God: Now if you'll excuse me, I have to appear on a tortilla in Mexico

Marge: Homer, the Lord only asks for an hour a week.
Homer: Well in that case, He should've made the week an hour longer. Lousy God

Far too many to single one out, but one that hasn't been mentioned 'Homer the Smithers'.

    Has to be...
    Last Exit to Springfield

My personal favorite bit is the Grampa Burns flashback. But it's all gold. It's the Simpson's at it's very best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 638 ✭✭✭Endaaaagh

If I can mention a (fairly) recent episode...
Springfield Up from season 18 was quite good. It's about the only episode from the recent seasons I'd recommend. It's shown documentary style following the characters as they grow up in Springfield, returning to them every 8 years. My favorite was the little girl who wanted to grow up to be a doctor and a lawyer "because a woman can do anything".
She ends up having a nervous breakdown and becoming the crazy cat lady

Yep, Beer Baron for me too.

2nd would be when they all join the cult with "The Leader".

Did you ever see the uncut version of the beer baron episode? It shows a fish and chip shop with a union jack outside being blown up. Pretty messed up for a cartoon. But still, that episode ranks up there with the best of them..

Rex- "Well, what are you waiting for. Someone to give you a kiss goodbye?"

Wiggum- "Well, um.. No.. No, I guess not".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,333 ✭✭✭gaz wac

Don't remember what episode it was, sure Homer didn't even SAY anything...

pulls up to Apu's in the disabled spot
    gets out
walks to the door.... dragging his leg
    door opens
    walks in perfectly normal

I was crying looking at it !!! :-)

Last Exit to Springfield. So many classic moments in 22 short minutes!

    And not forgetting:
    - Grampa's onion belt story (which was the style at the time!)
    - The guy who kept shouting "me" and then pinned it on a muscular man beside him who was promptly beaten up
    - Homer spinning on his shoulder when resigning as union rep and Burns' line "Smithers, I'm beginning to think Homer Simpson is not the brilliant tactician I thought he was"

Not sure of the episode but the family went to some sort of military air show

There was an airforce general standing beside a fighter jet and all the kids were gathered round

The airforce general says " this jet is so advanced that even a child could fly it "

One of the kids shouts out " can I fly that plane "

The airforce general says back in that proper airforce american way

" of course you can not "

I seen it about 15 years ago but it always sticks in my head

Possibly my favourite part of that episode is when Bob, in the Wright Brothers plane, descends upon the abandoned shack where Krusty is broadcasting:

    (Krusty hears an incoming noise.)
Krusty: What the hell is that, a lawnmower?
(Krusty opens the door to see the plane headed straight for the shack, screams in terror and jumps out the back window. He gets up and lights a fag.)
Krusty: What is the freakin hold-up?
    Bob: DIE, KRUSTY, DI-
(The plane simply bounces off the shack and is then crushed by a tank.)
Soldier: Oh sorry, we don't usually drive these in the air force!
