Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Looking to get my first Road Bike as the summer is approaching. I've been commuting since September on a nice Trek 7.3 and have also used it when going on cycles in the evenings. Looking to get a decent road bike for those evening cycles now!

Looking to get the spending in or around €800 (incl. Lights). So, what should I go for - Trek 1.1, Giant Defy 5,4,3?

Also size wise, I'm about 5ft 8/9", so a Medium?

    Thanks!

It would be well worth considering a look at a cube, prob the best bang for your buck bike out there at the moment.

I've had both, currently on a trek Domane 2.3 both are fine bikes but maybe the Giant is just a little better value for money, again you can't go wrong with either, good luck.

It's like saying your only paying for the name buying a Ford etc, There is no doubt other brands are every bit as good as Trek or Giant but It comes down to your personal preference, as Said earlier, I like Both and have had both.

Thanks for the replies, looking at the Cube Peloton bikes. Seem like serious bang for your buck! Most specifically the Triple and the Race models (€650 and €800)...

Unless you live in particularly hilly or mountainous area I wouldn't bother with the triple. A compact double with a 13/28 or 13/30 cassette on the rear will get you over almost mountain in this country and besides triples can be more troublesome compared to doubles.

Giant and Trek are both good brands.

Truth be told you can't go too far wrong going into a local bike shop and ordering one of their road bikes.

Trek! No, Giant!... Lemme think...yeah Giant!...hmm those Treks are pretty good value. But those Giants do look good but everyone has one...

    Oh bugger...I don't know!

Have you considered a Canyon? :pac:
