Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Some Real Madrid are nuts.

They way they go on, its like they want Real to get knocked out, just so they could say, told ya so!
They need support for these last few minutes, but nah, boo the lot of them.

Madrid lose in league haunted them.

Alot of anti madrid heads will love this.

Madrid extremely fortunate to come throught that. Schalke were by far the better team. God help Madrid against barcas front 3 in 10 days time

Can Real Schalke that down to bad defending?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,117 ✭✭✭jacool

Poor Schalke, great effort. Casillas, bad and all as he was, made enough saves in the end to get Madrid over the line.
Pepe's such a let down. Quick enough to put the boot in but gets looked at sideways and down he goes.

Getting rid of Lopez,Alonso,Di Maria proving suicidal.

Hope the blancos get murdered in the next round.

City, chelsea and arsenal would have destroyed them on tonights show. They gave up huge chances.

No no, english sides would of been just as bad are they usually are in europe. Schalke played well.

City and arsenal yes, not chelsea.

And on tonights showing Real would have been rolled over by many a team.

    Nonetheless, good game to watch.

When you think about the Semi Final in the whatever the stadium is called now Abu something last year Madrid's defending was impeccable. Bayern had all the possession. So many corners and looked largely toothless. Madrid were explosive on the counter.

Tonight they were rubbish on the counter and woeful at defending. You'd hope that's the nadir their season. Otherwise they're going to be exposed heavily against a quality side. Do, Alonso, Modric and Ramos really make such a difference? It would appear so.

So unfortunate Schalke. So unfortunate. Thanks for such an enjoyable game.

Ramos definitely is missed. For the obvious one defending but also his leadership he's always barking orders and the aggression he brings to the team complete different team without him.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Madrid are in a bad patch but still got through the tie. Chelsea conceded 3 or 4 to Everton early in the season and it's not because they are terrible. Sometimes games like this take on a life of their own and all he'll breaks loose. Great entertainment.

Real looked like they thought they had the game won and went out with a wrong attitude. It's very hard to just switch it on mid game. It might be the kick in the ass they need. They'll still be very dangerous in this competition

Why do I get the feeling something is going on behind the scenes in MAdrid?

Because there actually is. . .

When Madrid were knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Atlético, it was repackaged as a good thing: they would be fresher in the league, released from the burdens January brings. Then they were beaten 4-0 by Atlético in the league. Much was made of the fact that some of the players attended Cristiano Ronaldo’s birthday party that night, as if that had been the reason, and the president Florentino Pérez intervened, visiting the club’s Valdebebas training ground. “Pérez sets them straight,” the headline in Marca claimed. Blame had been apportioned and there was more to come.

    ...
Madrid’s players are well-versed in politics: the fact that the news of Pérez’s visit was filtered out, and how and where, mattered as much as the news itself. Defeats at Madrid are rarely just defeats, and managers are always exposed. So, the players feel, are they. A couple of weeks later, Pérez was there again. Marca’s cover showed him with Casillas and Ronaldo alongside the phrase: “We won’t let you down.”

Entire article is worth the read.

Real Madrid in overbearing President shocker!! Surely not...

Madrid's CL win last year was also a bit lucky tbh. There main problem is they have no pressure high up the pitch when they lose the ball due to the front 3 not working. James Rodriguez & Modric have been huge losses. Bale probably needs to be dropped & used as an impact sub for the CL games.

Letting Alonso and Di Maria go was stupid of them

Still think they'll get to the semi's maybe the final

I think alonso is the big loss. They bought like for like with Rodriguez coming in for adm. But they're missing alonso's poise, passing and ability to win back the ball in midfield.

Still, they played poorly and scored 3. They're a match for anyone on their day.
