Are Architects fees negotiable?

I just got a quote of just under €9000 ex VAT for Design, Planning, Tender and Construction for a 2200 sq foot bungalow. This is excluding mandatory services such as Project Supervision, Certification and Percolation testing.

The architect also quoted for additional services such as Architectural Technician, Senior Technician etc and also specialist services which were not included in the 4 stages outlined above.

I am just wondering is there any room to negotiate with the architect regarding their fees or what would be the reaction of an architect if I attempted to haggle? I realise this is a very specialised profession but am unsure as to whether what I was quoted is value for money; what we could end up paying in total could be north of €12k.

    +1

3 quotes is to only way to be sure your getting a good price.
Same applies with the Builders Quotes, 3 prices from 3 different contractors will give you a fair deal in the end

Yes, get three quotes, but don't necessarily base you decision on who is the cheapest...look at past work/speak with previous clients before making your decision.

I'm building a 1300 sq ft dormer ext and that's about the number I'm paying and I got 2 quotes. Percolation test and structural engineer were on top of this. It's alot of money but it might be an idea to cap the fee, gives you certainty over the number.
