    1st cousin starting road cycling and "needs" the radio for motivation!

    I just use my phone connect the ear phones and away you go.

    That's what I do I have an old Nokia the Radio is great and sometimes I swop
    the sim if I'm waiting on a call and the nokia earphones are also a hands free. I can also change the radio channels by pressing the button on the earphones.

    Keep it simple and the battery will last up to 2 weeks !!!!!!

    I have a Sony SBH50 (link)

    Not cheap, but it's small, weather resistant, and doubles as a bluetooth headset; I also use it to play podcasts on my phone.

    All this with an old, hacked, 1 bud headphone.
