Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It ends 1-1 and while Argentina were the better team over the 90 minutes they didn't really deserve the win as they didn't create much in the second half.

Not all that bad considering how South American qualification works with playing 18 games

A lot of good teams have come to grief in Quito. The altitude is a huge advantage to the home team.

Kind of mad that teams of the quality of Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast and Algeria could be eliminated by next Tuesday, just under 3 years before the tournament actually starts

They'll probably all get through this stage, but some potentially trappy second legs.

Kryskstan doing Australia a huge favour there, no shocks in Africa although Morocco struggled. Argentina struggling but early days yet.

Syria doing well. That could be messy going forward. Also Palestine are on the fringes too. How are India so sh*te with a population of a billion?

Only group winners and 4 best runners up go into the next round in Asia.

Well i say football just can't compete with Cricket in India

because they have virtually no natural talent in football what so ever and they are a country obsessed with cricket. its a big spectator sport there, but played by very few relative to population.

having visited there many times, i can honestly seen ive never seen a game there, never seen kids kicking around, never seen a pitch etc etc.

its a bit like Gaelic football in Kilkenny, soccer in new zealand etc etc.

Interesting but New Zealand have been at the FIFA World Cup twice, even finishing ahead of Italy at World Cup 2010!

It's a bit of an inter-generational thing. For the older Kiwis it's all Rugby Union, rugby league and cricket. For the younger generations though soccer is becoming quite popular. It's the second most played sport by schoolboys after rugby union.
Their national league is LOI-standard but they do have one team in the Australian A-league based in Wellington and the english premier league is really popular. When David Beckham played a friendly over there with the LA Galaxy it was shown live on terrestrial television.

New Zealand were the only unbeaten team at that WC. Imagine the odds of that before the tournament??

Ecuador are flying at the moment, don't know whats going on. They beat Argentina at home, and although Argentina were brutal Ecuador are playing some great stuff.

Uruguay back on track handing a tired looking Chile team their ars3s in Montevideo this week, they were outstanding. Sanchez looked totally gassed out. Needs a rest.

Argentina handily beat a poor looking Colombia side, talk of Peckerman getting the heave ho. Was a match that Argentina could have won by a few more goals. Dybala was lively after coming on, hitting the post and having an onside goal ruled out. Biglia played out of his skin and bossed the mf, scored the winner.

Anyone know if the Brazil Uruguay game is being shown anywhere? I remember setanta or one of those used to show the South American qualifiers.

According to the flashscore app it's streaming only via bet365 or unibet. No idea how accurate that is though

Guatemala beat USA 2-0 last night to move second in the group ahead of the USA.

They play Guatemala again on Wednesday and need the win or they are pretty much out with two games to go.

Can't imagine FIFA being too happy if the US weren't to make the World Cup...

Brazil's reappointment of Dunga was never going to work out, farcical as usual from the CBF, they have the bones of a very capable team if they get the right man in but they're unlikely to look abroad when they really should be.

Brazil just love reappointing former managers.

Just looking at Wikipedia, Dunga, Scolari, Zagallo, Parreira, Santana, Aymore Moreira, Brandao, Zeze Moreira and Feola have all had more than one go at managing the national side.

And I totally agree, they could easily go for a non-Brazilian but too much politices going on there.

How many go through from CONCACAF and Asia?

    Concacaf 3.5.
    Asia 4.5.

The point5s are a playoff place against each other.

How many go through from CONCACAF and Asia?

At this current stage now in CONACAF the group winners and runners up go into a 6 team group to play each other home and away with top 3 in the group going through to the World Cup.

In Asia those 12 teams will go into 2 groups of 6 to play each other home and away. Top 2 in each group goes into the World Cup. 3rd in each group play each other home and away to see who plays 4th in CONACAF

Interesting draw for the final stage of African qualifying. Algeria, Nigeria, Cameroon and Zambia all in the same group. Good chance of a first time qualifier from a couple of the other groups:

Argentina vs Uruguay could be a cracker. I hope one of the BT Sport/Eir channels is showing it.

I was pleased to see Porto's Andre Silva get a call-up for Portugal so I'm curious to see how he gets on (might not feature yet though as he's young).

Sweden vs Netherlands will be interesting in that it's post-Zlatan era for the Swedes, plus the Dutch attempting to turn their international fortunes around.
