Writing sample length for postgrad applications

Hi, Can anyone help me with this? One of the MA courses I want to apply for requires a writing sample, but they haven't specified any particular length, so I'm not really sure what they're expecting. I'd like to send them my dissertation from my BA, which is roughly 7,000 words, but I'm worried that might be a bit long for a sample? All it says on the applications page is: "Three copies of a sample of recent written work: for example an essay, a published article, or other relevant text etc."

Has anyone any advice on how long colleges normally expect writing samples to be?

Could you contact the course director or course administrator to ask? 7,000 words does seem a bit long, although if there's no word limit then I imagine they just won't read it all. You could maybe just send the literature review part? I'd still contact them to ask, they'll be used to hearing from prospective students. Good luck!
