    That really narrows it down

where the jokeshop used to be.... i guess you don't know it.

it's not like shopstreet is o'connel street, or times square. You could pretty much throw a stone from one end to the other if the wind was in your favour.

i believe it's above the body shop, or near it.

simply get yourself to shop street, go about a third of the way down (starting from the eyre square end), and ask a passerby where the phone repair shop is and they will point it to you...should take you approx 5 seconds.

it's second hand info, because my old man had his phone unlocked, by the prices and durations vary significantly from shop to shop (though they needn't, since it's just a matter of entering a code)

you'll really need to shop around if you're looking for the best price VS quickest time.

They mostly charge €20 to unlock phone, which is a rip off as it only takes them a few minutes to do it, its like a cartel in Galway, they mostly charge the same price give or take

You can probably jailbreak it yourself for €0. If demand decrease the price will decrease.
Ask in Apple devices forum (there is a stickied thread about it) about the specifics to do it DIY

About unlocking you now need to buy a code or have your provider unlock it.
