Ban cars

I know this seems radical and somewhat stupid. Seeing how so many deaths occur from cars and other motor vehicles used by people not to mention all the crashes that comes with it.
I propose that perhaps we should ban cars altogether.
How would we get around simple through the means of walking, cycling, public transport operated by artificial intelligence, and also horses (yes I know why you might not find it appealing but hey it give the country an epic wild west movie vibe). You might ask yourself who would clean up after horses well perhaps people on social welfare or dole might be gotten to do it. Not to mention a horse would give you more companionship then a car.

People get killed by horses too.

Thing of the past apparently; OP is proposing that equine companionship is the way to go.

Do you have any idea the price of hay or horseshoes....I do agree with your getting the unemployed to clean up the sh1t policy though.

Some people seem to want cars travelling at walking pace through housing estates. Why don't they just ban cars from housing estates?

They could have special housing estates for parents who don't watch their children very carefully where vehicles are banned.

It could have health benefits too, with everyone having to walk or cycle everywhere. People might stop wasting money on huge tvs and garden trampolines if they had to carry them from the road to their house.

Cars are the root of all evil when you think about it.

100 mile round trip to work each day.... On a horse you say?

I'm wondering how my round trip of 80k will work out on my pushbike - sure it will go grand with the 10k of walking I do whilst in work... :/

I prefer to use public transport or bike, however, i've only ever had a single job in my lifetime that public transport or biking etc could work. every other job i've had involves working outside public transport hours & too far to cycle.

we have a long, long way to go before there is an alternative to the car in ireland

Wouldn't be the first time someone proposed a load of horseshít in an attempt to "improve" transport. And by the way, from my cold, dead hands. :D

Cars are unable to kill people...well except perhaps those new self driving ones. It's the people driving that kill, so...ban people.

I agree OP. We could start a blimp service to carry people between the nation's major towns.

I've sold monorails to Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook, and by gum, it put them on the map. Well sir, there's nothing on Earth like a genuine, bonafide, electrified six-car monorail. What'd I say?? :D

    Good idea OP.
I'm going to visit my mother who is in a home 50 kms away. I'll saddle up my horse.

    Ban death.

Looks like you've concluded this thread in the first sentence.

Cars were the solution to the horse problem. Horses **** everywhere, you need loads of them to do the job of one Transit van, it's cruel to the horses, you'd need to make room for tens of thousands of horses.

It's almost as barmy as my idea to replace the police force with trained attack dogs.

Just put a rottweiler under your horse for this bit anyhow.

Just don't go buying a new horse.

They lose 30% of their value the minute you ride it out of the stable.

    You monster OP,
It's estimated that horses used to kill 7 times more people directly than motor deaths today.

And a million kilos daily of manure from hundreds of thousands of horses killed more again through disease.

Besides you missed the obvious. Get us workshy layabouts to drag rickshaws.
The politicians can upgrade to those ancient egyptian versions dragged by a couple of hundred subjects.

I agree with the OP. Well up to a point anyway.

I think private cars should be banned outright in urban areas, and licenses severely restricted in rural ones. Far too many stupid people in the world these days.

I'm up for it if I can stick wheels and a 2 litre petrol engine on said horse, making a few modifications for comfort and safety. A roof, some chairs, a windscreen. Minor modifications. It's still a horse officer...

Because eventually you'd end up banning, banning things and anarchy would ensue.
