Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I think there could be a lot of goals in this one. 4-3 Poland.

If we scored three I would be shocked. Not beyond Poland to score four against us though. I am thinking either a 1-1 draw or for Poland to win by two or three. I want to be optimistic, but I just can't see us getting a win.

Is a draw no good for us?

Not that it's no good, but these are the games you want to be winning if you want to keep qualification in your own control rather than increasingly having to say your prayers that things go right elsewhere.

0-0 in the Scotland game. Anybodywatching it, how are they playing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,238 ✭✭✭✭briany

Scots just scored a penalty. Would expect Gibralter to capitulate now.

1-1! How embarrassing for Scotland. :pac:

They sacked that clown who was managing them and look as if they're playing with a lot more freedom.

They had a couple of decent chances in the opening few minutes too.

Why was Damien Delaney left out of the squad?.It must be more of this Trapattoni holding grudges bull$hit from O'Neill and Keane.I know Delaney had a falling out with Keane at Ipswich. The FAI should be hauling in the managment to explain why Premier league players that are playing regularly are being left out.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Big fan of the rumours of us playing 3-5-2. We've got the ideal personnel for it, and it also means we can start Keane up front, as he wouldn't be the loan man up there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 454 ✭✭john why

    3-1 Now, game over unfortunately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,238 ✭✭✭✭briany

NI playing superb against Finland. Up 2-0. Shows what a positive mindset and a good system of football can do for a set of 'average' players. A lesson to take into tonight.

When is the team announced? 6.45?

None of the above. Delaney said he wants to concentrate on his club career for the moment. He hasn't officially retired though.

Given will probably have to deliver a great performance to subdue any detractors.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭Nib

Very harsh on David Forde, Given is a huge risk.

Would have preferred Long instead of Walters.

    Glen Whelan starts again.

At least Wes gets a starting place and justify all the previous shouts for him to be there in the mix from KO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Surprised he's going with Keane up top on his own when Keane himself has admitted he prefers a strike partner alongside him. Also not sure about Brady at left-back. I'm sure there was a game where he played there and struggled in the past 12 months.

Not a line-up that fills me with confidence. I fear Poland will score early, we'll claw it back, and then they'll score late and break our hearts. Truly hope I end up being way off the mark. A loss tonight would be horrendous.

Walters on the right in a 4 5 1 is it?

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

Perhaps a 4-3-3 either. Big performances needed from McGeady, Walters and Hoolohan I think. They need to help the midfield and Keane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,796 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

    Very attacking team

Think Wes is key tonight. He needs to get on the ball, link up with Keane and bring McGeady into the game. If he goes missing, Keane will be left isolated and McGeady will be marked out of the game.

Given is a risk. Forde done nothing to suggest he should be dropped at all IMO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 52,404 ✭✭✭✭tayto lover

Forde does not deserve this. Very disappointed that Given is in ahead of him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Trap would be proud of that team selection.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,054 ✭✭✭WallyGUFC

Hope the selection of given doesn't come back to bite us in the arse. Hasn't played near regularly enough imo and Forde has been solid (and sometimes spectacular) for us. Big, big call.

  • Registered Users Posts: 954 ✭✭✭Midlife Crashes

Quietly optimistic about this game. That front 2 of Lewy and Milik is frightening but their fullbacks are lol bad.

Apart from the strikers I'd say the two teams are about even

What sort of arse about face way have RTE got the table . Points as the first column then p w d l etc. Stop messing with ****.

Walters' deserves his place; very underrated player. Glad he's playing.

Agree about Given and Whelan but think Walters is the right call.

Long has not done a lot lately.

Really. Are you serious. My only doubt is Given

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

4-4-2 or 4-5-1 are both poor with the personnel out there.

Keane cannot play up front by himself. He hasn't got the legs for it.

We're gonna struggle to keep the ball regardless. Gonna be rough watching for 90 minutes.

Eamonn agrees with me. I'd like to withdraw the above statement :pac:

Well why not show a graphic of the team they think will play?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,975 ✭✭✭nkay1985

It's surely going to be Wes sitting behind Robbie with Walters on the right? If so, I don't think Robbie will be isolated. If anything there's a much higher chance than usual of him getting in the ball in a meaningful way.

It does depend on us getting the ball to Wes of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,633 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

It'll be a 4231 type thing. Whelan and McCarthy holding, holohan in the middle with mcgeady and Walters wide, Robbie up top.
Walters up top with Robbie behind would work better

Dunphy talking Hoolahan up something fierce here. Hope Hoolahan lives up to Dunphy's words.
