Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Dunphy talking Hoolahan up something fierce here. Hope Hoolahan lives up to Dunphy's words.

He will be calling him useless at half time so :pac:

Forde does not deserve this. Very disappointed that Given is in ahead of him.

Agree -Given has had his time and been out of this world for us on many occasions, but after the Euros in 2012 he is damaged goods !

Team actually looks alright on paper anyway. Feel sorry for Forde. Hasn't really done much wrong to warrant being dropped.

Of all the positions on the team I would have thought Forde's was the safest.
Cannot understand this decision at all.

A little bit mote optimistic now that I've seen the team . Hope they try and keep hold of the ball . Just have a nagging feeling we'll start well but when Poland settle we'll end up playing MON hoof ball half an hour in .

Shay given is going to cost us, hasn't played a decent game for Ireland in years, and barely played in the last few years for club or country...forde should not have been dropped

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,322 ✭✭✭RoryMac

It'll be a 4231 type thing. Whelan and McCarthy holding, holohan in the middle with mcgeady and Walters wide, Robbie up top.
Walters up top with Robbie behind would work better

    Yeah I think it'll be a 4-2-3-1 setup

    Given?

    gtfo O'Neill

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,368 ✭✭✭MonkieSocks

    Probably line out like this,

    ....................Given,
    .Coleman, Wilson, O'Shea, Brady,
    ...........Whelan, McCarthy,
    Walters,................ McGeady,
    .............Hoolahan,
    .............Keane.

Can't see Keane holding onto the ball for long.
Much prefer to see long in that role.

Methinks we need our fullbacks to push up, put in crosses for Walters and McGeady to get on the end of them.

At the moment Germins, Scots and Poles on 10pts.

This is a must win game

=(:-) Me? I know who I am. I'm a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude (-:)=

were there not rumours that it was gonna be 3-5-2? surely that would make more sense pushing brady forward and leaving coleman o shea and Wilson as a back 3?

very important match to be slotting a winger into an important defensive position. is he a decent defender does anybody know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

    Here comes the weather!

Given is a brave call. Brady at left back is too. I wonder is Walterz going to play on the left to give a bit more protection.

The key to getting Hoolahan and Keane working is the midfield's passing. Hopefully the McCarthy Whelan axis clicks tonight.

Looks like they were just rumours, not sure I'd be happy if Coleman was part of a back 3.

I think MON pretty much confirmed the back 4 in his RTE interview

Sure forde is unlucky to be dropped but he's never going to be in the same class as given, and I don't understand people being so negative. I'm happier with given in goals. He's looked great in all of the cup games with villa this year.

RTE lads confident with Irish team, but they have not mentioned Poland at all who are top of the table and beat Germany.

A draw or a close shave win me thinks. Ireland definitely to score.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,429 ✭✭✭Kenjataimu

I hope Given pulls off a couple of good saves early on to settle him and the crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,368 ✭✭✭MonkieSocks

Dropping Forde is a mistake, he's better coming for crosses then Given PLUS he has built a good understanding with the back four.

We will win 2-1 - can't see us keeping a clean sheet with Brady at left back

Should be mandatory to learn and sing the national anthem if you want to play for the country imo

So confident that they all predicted a draw. I think they might be right though. It'll be fingers crossed from kickoff.
