Gaming laptop?

    He guys, my son is looking to get a gaming laptop mainly for the portability factor.
    Ive advised we could build a far better spec desktop but he seems dead set on the laptop.
    Since i havent bought or know much about laptop specs what sort of money is he talking about?
    It doesnt have to be up to running the latest games at max settings or anything but decent enough performance all the same.
    Any suggestions?

    Meh pc specialist. Get windows on reddit k.ocks 100 off build. Some people on here have ones for sale not sure I'm allowed say now serpecus. F it. Not Benefits me.

    I once had the same mindset about gaming laptops. I'm pretty sure people just can't imagine how much better desktops are overall in the long run. When I was 16 I bought a "gaming laptop". Worst decision ever. I've had several friends also insist on getting a gaming laptop only to years later actually get the desktop as the laptop encounters too many issues.

    Heres several reasons why:
    Overheating, this is awful its literally like having a radiation sitting on your legs (which was nice in winter).
    Fan noise, due to the overheating these things can sometimes sound like a jet engine.
    Performance degrades alot over time.
    Can't be upgraded, while a PC allows a €200 graphics card allows for another 3-4 years without spending any more.
    If it encounters an issue with a hardware component especially the motherboard you've got yourself a very very big issue. While on a desktop this is generally far easier to solve.

    I'd advice you to just buy the PC and say you'll thank me later...

    The whole internet doesn't go nuts about high end desktops for nothing.

    As you already know all the negatives about gaming laptops, i'll skip those.

    What's unavoidable though, is the price. To get a laptop capable of playing the latest games at max settings, and at least slightly future proofing it, you're looking at around €1500 from what i can see. The ASUS ROG G751JY seems to come up quite a but, but that'll set you back around 2k.
