That is no longer a BiA game after the backlash the first reveal received. It is simply called Furious 4 and is a brand new IP.
Ah, you are indeed correct, ta! :)

The point remains, however, that development on the title is active* and is not being hampered by either the development of the Handsome Collection or the possibility of porting Borderlands 1. As others have said, that seems to be the major gripe with these remasters, people think they're getting in the way of development in new titles when in the majority of cases that's simply not the case.

*From reading up on it, in that particular case I'd imagine the shenanigans with Ubisoft and the BiA IP would have more to do with its stagnated development than anything else.

Would it be worth having a thread dedicated to remastered games for discussion outside of each individual title? its a great topic, and theres a huge spread of passionate opinions on it.

It could be called 'Remastered Games: Remember, no one is forcing you to buy them'

Hah, I kinda agree... but kinda disagree. If it's making them money, then why not?

I never played these and am interested in catching up but probably wouldn't be interested in dusting off my PS3... If these are the right price I'll be buying them.

At the same time, I'm quite happy to see a "safe" follow up to the Arkham games get released.
Its a pity Valve haven't played it as "safe" with Portal and Half Life 3!
There's a balance to be struck with old favourites and new games.
It has to be said, all the risk rests with the developers and publishers, how often have we seen good games being well received by the critics but poorly selling, and their resulting layoffs.
Probably why we see far more adventurism in the indie scene, rather than big budget titles.
But, if they can get game publishing up to PS3/360 levels we can all be happy.

    The Last Guardian FTW!

Can't say I ever found Dante a particularly endearing character in the original games anyway, more a straightforward personification of the games' devil may care attitude. Characterisation and story were far down the list of what I played those games for anyway, so I wouldn't count Dante among the untouchable icons of gaming. Although while there's always something to be said for taking an established franchise in new directions (it's sometimes important to piss off fans if it makes for a better end product - honestly we don't get nearly enough of it), it must be done for the right reasons, not just a marketing team declaration.

Dante was never a good character and the story... well I'd be hard pushed to even remember if there was a story. However he was fun. In comparison the new Dante is just flat out unlikeable and all the story stuff gets in the way whereas the original it was just there to frame the next area. There's too much emphasis on the platforminf section and the rollercoaster sections where the world changes around you but you are in no immediate danger, they add nothing to the game.

The main character and story being childish drivel is fine if the game behind it is any good... which it is. Ninja Theory very nearly got it right. The combo system and movement are good if not up to the original series standards, but for a company that previously only mad games with the worst combat systems imaginable it was a great first try. 30 fps though was a big mistake, corrected in the remaster. They then spoil their own combat system, which is all about the choice it offers the player, by limiting the players choice with colour coded enemies that can only be damaged by one weapon. I've heard they have made some changes to this in the remaster.

I'm looking forward to the remaster of DMC and playing it on PC once it's very cheap. It seems to be a remaster done right where they have changed the game due to player feedback rather than some of the lazier efforts.. It's not a bad game but it's also no where near as good as some of the retrospectives I've read recently that seem to brush under the rug all the games myriad problems.

The problem here is that it seems to most people that these remasters are coming at the expense of new games. We're 1 months into the current generation and it seems that Bloodborne will be (to my mind) only the second genuinely excellent new title on both consoles after Titanfall. In that time we've seen little else but safe sequels, indie games and remasters of games people played years ago.

Most of these remasters are being outsourced to dev teams that specialise in these remasters and not actually full title development studios. This gen has just gotten off to a very slow start and it's not helped by the fact that the new consoles are incredibly underpowered as well meaning what is available is available on other platforms as well.

I'm sure I heard on a podcast that sony have a dedicated team that works with indie developer who will take your finished game and get it up and running on the playstation platform. I'd assume similar assistance is given to getting the pc ports running too. i suppose it makes sense in that the game library for the console gets padded out, if nothing else.

Both platform holders have teams which will aid in the porting process but, generally speaking, they won't do it for you. I'm sure there are special cases for higher profile titles whereby an internal team will handle the work but I imagine it's handled/paid for like any other contract work.

Outside of that, there are plenty of other companies who do this kind of work. For instance, Bluepoint Games and Mass Media handled many higher profile PS3/PS4 remasters and ports, Aspyr specialise in Mac ports, Nixxes have done many of the PC ports for Eidos titles and Curve Digital and Double Eleven have done a bunch of current-gen indie ports in recent times.
