I'm looking to build a mid level gaming PC. I already have a graphics card, but I'm wondering if I should buy a second used one to SLI, or try and squeeze a better card out of my budget?

    1. What is your budget? €750 max

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Gaming and everyday use

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? I have a DVD RW, 1TB HD, a 120GB SSD and a GTX 670 graphics card. My current machine is BTX, so I can't salvage much else from it.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? (2) 1920 X 1080, No

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? No

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? Not really

    8. How can you pay? Any method is fine, but sterling is very high right right now.

    9. When are you purchasing? within about 60 days

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? I've changed the mobo in my current build, so I think I'll be fine with this.

    i5 4460 180
    H97 85
    630w PSU 50
    512ssd 175
    8gb ram 60
    DS 3 case 65

    That's 635 if I've counted right.

I'm terrible at pricing second hand items so I won't even try the 670. If you can shift it for over 250 ( should be easy according to Amazon) then buy a gtx 970 leaving you at 700.

Other option is a i5 4690k and a Z97 motherboard but its probably overkill.

Use the 120gb SSD for windows, install all your games on the 512, you won't regret it

I sold a used 670 about a month ago for 150. That seemed to be the typical sale price (not asking!) on adverts. You might get a bit more but 250 sounds a bit optimistic.

Brand new gtx 960's start around 200 euros on geizhals. gtx 960 is stronger than a gtx 670, so fair price for a used 670 should be well under 200. Definitely not 250.

So I still suck at pricing things :O

Sell it for 150 and then a 960 is 215 on HWVS OP!

ah, well I didn't mean to suggest replacing the 670 with the 960. It would be a very minor upgrade, not really worth the money. I was just using the 960's price to put a reasonable value on a used 670.

I'd recommend OP should just do the build with the 670 he already has. If it's not powerful enough then consider either getting a second 670 used for SLI or selling the 670 and getting a 970. SLI 670's are pretty much exactly the same as a single 970 in firestrike benchmark, but 970 has more VRAM and lower power draw.

Yeah less difference than I thought there was actually.

Probably keep the 670 op, then if you need an upgrade get another or a 970 as Luck as said
