Online dating and Astrology

Stray observation that has oddly irritated me more and more as I look into it.

Ever notice that a lot (obviously not gone and checked them all) online dating websites force astrology on to you?

For example sites like match.com, lovestruck.com etc allow you to change (and potentially lie) every detail about yourself, and you get the option to say you are not willing to talk about certain aspects or that its not important etc.

But they automatically based on the birthdate you give assign you a star sign

and you can't turn it off

Now I can and will tend to put a lot of stupid on my profile, but its my choice what stupid I put on and what I don't.

But it bugged me endlessly that I had no choice on this stupid and could not remove it no matter what.

So I emailed their customer care to see if there was a way to remove it:

In response to your query, I understand that your astrological sign displayed on your profile may be inconvenient to you and please accept our sincere apologies for this.

Please note that your astrological sign is determined by the date of birth you inserted upon your registration on our website. However, I regret to inform you that we currently have no option to turn it off.

Not to worry as I have now passed your email to our site developers who will take it into consideration during future updates to the website.

Tip: it is known that the astrological sign is important for people who are in search for their perfect match. So do not hesitate to take this feature as a springboard, as this may increase your chance for meeting someone special.

Thank you for your attention. We remain available for anything we can assist you with.

yeah, When it comes to that tip I'm very clearly thinking of a different sort of "special"

This doesnt happen with porn sites. Therefore I recommend porn over dating as you'll always find your perfect match.

Wow, some very odd results when one googles astrology porn. I don't recommend clicking images.

hmm... I always considered that to be a rough idea of when someone's birthday was. So I wouldn't try to date any chicks who's birthday was coming up, So I wouldn't have to get them a present or anything.

Never thought it'd be part of matching criteria.

Look, astrology is important to 'romance' for a very simple reason.

Anyone who genuinely thinks that the imagined shape of stellar groups when one was born can allow you to predict your individual future or personality, is bound to be a few pennies short of a full purse and thus an easy lay.

Don't know much about star signs, but if two people of the same star sign meet, wouldn't it mean that their birthdays are close and they are less likely to forget their loved ones birthday? Might have a point there somehow
