Recommendations for a really good Limerick doctor??

    Hi folks,

I have a condition - chronic fatigue - that most doctors just fob me off about. It's having a very bad effect on my life and I need a GP who is open minded and very dedicated to help me. In my case it's caused by recurring glandular fever and people in other countries are getting cutting edge therapies that help, but unfortunately medically we're a bit backward here. So I need someone really good to help me, male or female I don't mind. Any recommendations?? Thanks...

Dr. Mac Curtain in Castleconnell - the woman was born to be a doctor. She is open minded and listens to her patients.

The problem may be more down to the health service in this country rather than the doctors... every doctor in Limerick will do their best for you, allowing for the system they are required to work in.

There are loads of people walking around this country with chronic fatigue or something similar / just feeling boll!xed all the time. It is not ideal, but there are very, very severe challenges the health system must deal with before they will ever be able to get down the list to you. Go to any doctor in Limerick (bar the one you went to already), and go with a lot of cash and they'll be able to refer you on to investigate and sort it out. But it's an expensive process.

    Hope is of some help.

I can't even remember my Doctor's name it's been so long since I've gone but the girlfriend's doctor is Marcela McCann and she can't praise her more highly. She really seems to care.

Thanks guys, I know people are mentioning Docs that are easy to chat to and that's great but I need someone who can be dedicated to doing some research and reading info I give them so really need someone prepared to go the extra mile as well. It's a complicated illness that some docs actually question whether it's an illness at all so need someone open minded too. Dr MacCurtain does sound promising though.

Maybe you are better off asking in the ME thread in the long term illness forum.

Lucy Anne, Dr Mary Ryan in Barringtons Hospital deals with chronic fatigue.

From personal experience I wouldn't recommend Matt Kiely to anyone. I found him incredibly uncaring, unhelpful and downright rude.

Thanks for all your advice, great to hear about the consultant in Barringtons who specialises in it I will go to her. Be still great to get a good GP though. So any thoughts on that let me know.

I think you should request your GP to send you to her. A GP is unlikely to take uo the research you say you want done so will refer you to a relevant specialist instead.
As for a recommendation, the only place I know is the one opposite the Ardhu on the Ennis Rd. The place has changed a little since I was there last but they really looked after me. I went to both of them on different occasions with something a little more sensitive in nature when I was a student and I felt really at ease with each of them. I think the may have a female GP there too now but i am not sure on that.

Dr Giolla McCann is a great doctor. She is my family doctor and is excellent. She wont fob you off like some doctors do. She is located near where Ivans used to be.

If you drive past LIT down brookeville before you come to the traffic lights near where Ivans was she is on the right handside. Last House before the apartment complex. Her number is 061451499.
