Prehistoric owl cloned in Brazil, attacks scientist

    According to this story, scientists in Brazil managed to clone the giant prehistoric owl Ornimegalonyx, but the creature unsurprisingly went into a rampage and took a scientist's eye out.

    As you probably guessed, it's a false story, apparently started by a satyrical website. The photos are of a great potoo (Nyctibius grandis), a nightjar relative (the same photos have been doing the rounds under labels such as "mutant", "alien", etc. It looks nothing like Ornimegalonyx, tho.

    Not paleontology, and I doubt anyone in the forum would fall for it, but here it is as a record of what people will believe sometimes...
