Hi. Is there a way to display a welcome message when a customer logs onto my business network?

I have a password I only tell customers.

But it would be great to have a welcome message such as

"Well to my bar, todays offer is xxxxxx".

Can this be done on F1000 (efiber modem)?

    Thanks.

    Mark.

    Hi markmurphy

I can certainly see the benefits of that (it's a really cool idea) leave it wih me and I'll check with managers in technical support to see if it's possible :)

    Cheers

This is called "Captive Portal". Most home routers don't come with capabilities to set up captive portals.
If you're interested in setting it up and don't mind some technical configuration look up a few options:
    OpenWrt
    Pepperspot/Chillispot
    PfSense (firewall)

OK after looking for ages I found this.

    https://www.hotspotsystem.com

I signed up for the free package to see if I can get it working. If I do, I'll post directions. I have a tp-link router , but not same model as in the firmware. I'm waiting for them to get back to me. See can I erase the firmware and install hotspot software.

    Keep yiz posted.

    Take a look at purplewifi.net

They do social login and also you can send mail shots to people availing of your wifi direct from their portal.

    OK!!

All done. Its very good, but takes a while to set-up. Heads up don't use " ' " in your SSID.

Now you have to log into the Wi-Fi using either FB or just a form. Simple as Name and password. And will remember you for next time to. Main thing is I can put a splash screen when users log in. Such as today's football matches or special offers or whatever. Very easy to change that on a daily basis.

    http://www.purplewifi.net/wifi-packages/

    And its FREE !!

Problem solved. I think you can use open DNS to (blocks porn and crap). Working on that bit still.

MOST IMPORTANT!! I used a Tp-Link720 router, they are only 20 euro on ebay. You can flash this router NOT your Eircom one.

Yippee!! Log on page , and porn blocked. Nice. This is a free service. And I must say the Tech. support guys are very very helpful.

Anyone else wants a hand setting it up, giz a PM.

Looks a lot more professional than normal login. And you get to broadcast your message of the day to!

HOLD ON!! I'm on the premium package for free for 1 month..I'm told most of the features are stripped after 30 days. I rang them , sent to a voice mail, email and still no sign of prices.

Update 1 : They see everything you do on the net. I don't like this at all. Not one sausage. And keep records of everything. Now, it was great to learn all about it. And get it up and running. But after reading some reviews and other information, I'm just not happy with all the data they collect. So its a no. Deleting the account now. And resetting my router back to way it was.

    humm....

    Hi markmurphy

Sorry to hear it didn’t work out as it seemed promising (for a while) - I'm afraid eircom don't to a similar welcome message so best advice I can offer is to shop around and see if there are any which don't collect Data...

    Cheers

One or more of these will do what you need :

    http://www.openmesh-uk.com/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=61

the management thingy is free afterwards - draws pretty graphs etc all day

that one is dual-band so should take some "load" off

Most importantly they have a "Watchdog"
this will reboot it if anything goes wrong

Its not expensive a year they just got back to me. The only thing is , it does look professional, I can post my daily message (or weekly or whatever).

When you think about it, ANY public wi-fi network is collecting all that data anyway. A reason I uninstalled FB on my phone. Just use a VPN, like Ghost VPN on your phone is free anyway.  I just set my network up a different way today, so my personal traffic does not go thru there servers. So happy with that.

So all in all, it is a cheap way for a small business. Blocks porn and the like, and you can set bandwidth limits per customer (I like this idea, no hogging!).

Going to give it the 1 month free trial.

    Let yiz know.
