I've been looking on hardwareversand and I've come up with this build (I'm now way an expert so tell me if there's anything wrong with it!)

    HV20479KDE Intel Core i7-4790K Box, LGA1150 365,99 €

Get windows from reddit for €20 or so. Put money towards a 512gb SSD for 175 if you'd like that, or a second 256gb drive.

All the advice I'm able ti offer

I wouldn't bother with the sound card and if drop the wattage on the PSU. 850W is overkill.

What if I were to add another gtx 970 down the road. Would 750w do still? Thanks for the help!

How do I get it from reddit for that price? Are they just selling keys? Sounds a bit dodgy for the price. Thanks.

You can run two 970s and an overclocked CPU on a 600W PSU. Google 'extreme PSU calculator' and see what wattage it tells you you need.

They're dev keys that are bought in bulk. They're not the most legit method but you get full tech support from MS

You should only be using around %50 percent of your PSU because that is when its most efficient. You will save money in the long run as well and will have upgrade opportunities in the future!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

    I wasn't telling him ti buy a 600W.

I typed all your stuff in with a bit of an overhead on http://www.extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine OP and it came to 587 meaning 600 would run it, as I said, so a 750 may be optimal. I don't know how much stuff you'll be adding so can't give a fair judgement however

  • Registered Users Posts: 175 ✭✭matthew1998

Maybe 850w would be the best bet... :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

Maybe 850w would be the best bet... :)

Why aren't you recommending a 1200W if 50% is optional? 750 is already much more than is needed.

Sound card probably isn't worth it unless your an audiophile or need high quality outputs.

970s are closer to €350 on Amazon.it. If its for gaming, then 8gb is plenty. Crucial Ballistix Sport is 117 for 16gb if you think you need that much.
Could look into ASRock Pro Extreme 3 motherboard for about 115. The one you have has more USB ports but that's the main difference between them

  • Registered Users Posts: 175 ✭✭matthew1998

1200w is expensive.... 50% is optimal. This only occurs for bronze PSU's which are good if your building a Mid Range gaming PC (I also have one). The corsair CX850 is a bronze PSU which I believe is a bit "skimpy" for your powerful PC.

I would recommend a Corsair RM850 which I belive is Gold for... *(german accent) MAXIMUM EFFICIENCY... and I will live longer and you could use it on your next build in 5 years time (optional).

The first NOOB mistake people make is "Ohh the PSU won't affect my FPS" and they cheap out! Same story with the motherboard all thought this one seems to be decent!

Thanks for all your replies. I will be ditching the sound card. I wouldn't say I'm on a strict budget here. I just don't want to be getting stuff that is overkill. Obviously I'm here because I need advice and I've been reading conflicting stuff in regards to the PSU. I have no problem getting the 850w if it's not overkill. I definitely won't be getting 1200w anyway ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,397 ✭✭✭✭Digital Solitude

No one here is an expert, we're all offering opinions.

An over clocked CPU with loads of ****e added on with 2 970s requires a minimum of 517W according to the calculator. You can gauge from that whether or not its worth shelling out €150 for a PSU, massive overkill IMO. A silver standard is probably good enough, only a >3% difference between silver and gold

Get a Titan if there's no budget ;)

The reason I ask is because if it is just for gaming... I like the one you done up. Like the cpu cooler, case. My only problem with it is.

    Mine runs 4K.

    @up4dabah

Just wanted to suggest rather than getting ASUS Z97-A mobo and a separate ASUS PCI-E Wifi card that you consider getting ASUS Z97-PRO(Wi-Fi ac)mobo instead:

    http://www.hardwareversand.de/DDR3/165970/ASUS+Z97-PRO%28Wi-Fi+ac%29%2C+Sockel+1150%2C+ATX.article

Built a rig recently myself using this board and an i7 4790K and it is an excellent bit of kit.
You'd only be saving about a fiver money wise, but it would keep your PCI-E slot free, and you would be getting Bluetooth 4.0 into the bargain as well.

Also IMO the type of wired Wifi/Bluetooth antenna that comes with the mobo is more versatile with regards to positioning than the ones which come with the PCI-E card, which would most likely be stuck behind the PC with the case shading some of the signal. But I guess that really matters more depending on your situation. e.g. if your router is in a different part of the house to the PC.

Your using a 700W PSU? hmmmmm.....Good luck with that!
What wattage does this PC roughly use?

    700 watt silver.

Total for this computer as is, less than 300 watt.

Sorry for the late reply I was away for the past few days. Thanks for that. That really helps. At the moment the router is in another room. I'll be moving in a few months, to where I dunno yet.

    What is the pc for.
Thanks for the build you posted and sorry for the late reply. The PC is not just for gaming. Hence the i7. I wont be using a 4k monitor. Actually I have a 42" Sony w705b TV that ill connecting this to. The input lag is the lowest recorded for an HD led TV. 16s I believe. So there will be no problems with it. I've thought about going with a gtx 980 but it doesn't seem to be worth paying twice the price especially when im not using a 4k monitor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 160 ✭✭up4dabah

Also I'm not confident enough to put this thing together myself. So ill pay for them to do it. Any horror stories about people buying custom.desktops from these guys? Or am I better off going with someone site like pcspecialist

GTX 970 is loads of horsepower if you're not gaming. If it comes to it, you can add another 970 which will blow a single 980 out of the water

I don't know if it's possible for a group of professionals to have several "horror stories" building PC's. It's like even more expensive lego.

I'd recommend you purchase a CPU Cooler even if you are not going to overclock as the Stock one will not do the job.
If you have no intention in Overclocking i'd go with the cheaper i7-4790 the only difference is that this version is not unlocked for overclocking. Hope the build works out for you!

Is it straight forward putting in this cpu cooler yourself as hardwareversand won't do it. The most I've ever done is change a keyboard and dvd drive on a laptop!

YouTube will help you. Type in your specific cooler.

It's really easy! Hardest thing is to spread the thermal paste/grease. Some CPU Coolers come with it already applied which can be really helpful! If your still in doubt just do a quick search on YouTube for how to install a lga 1150 cpu cooler!

Ok well I put in the bank transfer. Here's what I went with in the end. I held off on the cooler for now as I couldn't decide. Try my hand at overclocking sometime down the road. I decided against getting windows from reddit. Maybe I'm being a bit of a chicken but I dunno it just sounds off to me. Also they only charge €5 now instead of €30 do assemble. Glad i took a bit longer to decide ;) Thanks for the help to all of you. I'll keep ye updated on delivery and when it arrives etc.
