Very happy with that direct. I played Hyrule Warriors on the 3DS and enjoyed it, but the smaller screen just didn't suit the game, and I'm delighted with that port. Donkey Kong, which I've never played, is a must have too. Dark Souls, I'm not sure. I have it on PC, along with the sequel, and I just didn't get along with it, mainly due to time. As a portable, it may work for me, but with Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, and Donkey Kong on the way before it, it's going to have to wait a bit.

The DLC for Pokken delighted my young fellow, who loves Blastoise, and the DLC for Rabbids looks good though I've not looked at the game since completing the main campaign. Mario Tennis could go either way. I liked the 3DS game initially, but it got very dull fast. The Wii/GC version didn't entertain me either. This looks pretty good, but I'll probably wait for reviews. I would have preferred a golf game akin to Hot Shots/Everybodys Golf on the PS4/Vita - those were amazing games.

Overall, as a teaser, it's a good first half of the year. The announcements in May/June should sort us out for the second half - praying for Zelda Wii U ports, Skyward Sword port, and all the Mario Wii U games at the least. :)

Dark Souls for Switch will retail at $39.99 in the US (same as the other consoles) so should be similar in euros here. Glad it won't be a full price release. Definitely will be picking it up.

Ya they may well have had that in mind, the original title was considered quite difficult

Each time a Direct Mini has aired, a "standard" Direct (either dedicated to the full lineup of upcoming Wii/3DS/WiiU or just to specific games) followed within no more than 20 days.
I'm not saying it will be the case this time too, it's no written rule, but that's still a nice observation just in case someone doesn't want to leave the hype train yet.
(In the case of multiple Direct Minis aired one after another, I only considered the last one).

    https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/7pq1st/take_it_with_a_grain_of_salt_each_direct_mini_has/

I'd like to believe but I can't do any more direct hype right now.

Donkey Kong is similar to Dark Souls with regards to how you learn from your mistakes. It's not as difficult as it's made out. So glad it got a port though. It would be a travesty if it was limited to the Wii U owners.

What fps do you think we can expect from Dark Souls? Is 60 possible?

30 docked and undocked I'm almost positive.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

I won't be double dipping on Tropical Freeze, forget Dark Souls, that game is a total beast.

I regrettably rage sold tropical freeze and its been on my mine to rebut it for years on Wii U. But now I'll get it on switch instead. Beautiful game.

Surprised that the day after the Direct they announce the release of Detective Pikachu
    http://www.gamesradar.com/that-game-about-pikachu-as-a-gruff-detective-is-coming-west-with-a-huge-amiibo/

And for those Amiibo collectors, a large Amiibo coming as well

We might be expecting something this week again. Not sure if its a full direct, a fire emblem direct, or a video of some sorts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,295 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

Source for the rumoured Direct. I'd previously heard that something was happening this Thursday so we'll see soon enough.

Resetera Insider: smaller direct this Thursday, a big one in February.

As for the theme of the Direct this week, what I have about it is rather broad, which makes it hard for me to say what you should expect from it. I think it was something like 'games and accessories'? That's all I can really say about it from what I remember. And given the very short length of it, I just don't get the impression it'll be all that exciting.

Sounds like the 18th Direct will just be about new colour Joy-cons and other hardware extras released (werent some hinted at the start of the month?) and covering some smaller e-shop releases, prob a new vid of Bayonetta 1+2 and details on the Amiibo support and local play.

I assume they'll say something about online, or it'll be silly to have gone this long without any concrete details.

Nintendo please facilitate a Fire Pro Wrestling release. Salt & Sanctuary too.

Nintendo has announced that a trio of 3DS games will soon be joining the Nintendo Selects line. On February 3, Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, and Ultimate NES Remix will be sold for $19.99 each.

Quashes the ALBW port rumours I think.

I'd love that! It would be perfect for the Switch.

A new way to play for those who are young at heart, some sort of touch screen pen or a new controller? I hope its some sort of pleasent surpise anyway :)

Unfortunately it said for kids who are kids at heart so that's tempered my expectations slightly. An accurate touch pen would be great along with an Art Academy release.

The Wii U version along with the community aspect of Miiverse was very enjoyable.

Been trying to work out what it might be. Wild guess, I think it could be an amiibo focused game. You scan in amiibo to gain certain abilities. The main character will be a new creation, a dog, more specifically, the Nintendo Switch dog brought to life. Maybe 2 of them, male and female. I'll post an image shortly.

Whatever the announcement is it sounds like it may not necessarily be aimed at 'our' demographic. Which is fine as expanding the user base will benefit all users in the long run and with the portability, singular joy-cons, IR camera and touch screen etc use it would be silly not to investigate new uses for it with all those available.

Will be interesting to see nonetheless though.

Ah lighten up a bit, its fun to speculate what the announcement could be, even if its a million miles away from what it actually is.

I genuinely wasn't. Nintendo haven't ever released a full scale game using amiibo, despite calls from some quarters to do so. If they are to do so, then this may be their last port of call before it sets sail forever.

And then there's the dogs, they're man's best friend, Nintendo don't really have a dog mascot, they've used several other animals. Plus the Switch dog meme is very popular. It's just a bit of fun wild speculation. And a play on Itchy and Scratchy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,394 ✭✭✭Pac1Man

Toys-to-life type gig seems the most probable alright. Scan the Amiibo, that character pops up and you can play a few basic mini-games with them. Like that Wii U launch game who's name escapes me.

A Nintendogs game with Amiibo for different breeds seems likely in the not to distant future.
Probably make a lot of money too, hopefully it would have the content to make it a worthy purchase.

It's a bit worrying that Mario Tennis Aces has been singled out. Hopefully this Direct makes up for the poor one in January.

    30 min direct! awesome

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

The mini Direct in January was very good for a mini Direct, had loads of new game reveals. Never quite sure what some expect from Directs, well no that's not true, I do know - far too much.

Looks like this one will be a mixed one with 3DS as well, rumours elsewhere say we'll get more information and a title for Fire Emblem as well. Diablo won't be announced I would say, sources seem to suggest it's a bit off being announced yet. Stuff like South Park Stick of Truth and Fractured But Whole might be though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

Well apart from Kirby (out next week isnt it), Mario Tennis, DK:TF and Dark Souls Rem there isnt many "big" Nintendo games announced for the next few months. So maybe them singling out Mario Tennis is more its gonna be some new announcements but MT gets extra info and release date. But thats just me trying to be optimistic....also a Hyrule Warriors release date would be nice.

    Choo-choo y'all, one ticket to Hype-town!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

I want a firm date for Hyrule Warriors and a Diablo 3 announcement. I am a simple man.

    My predictions:

    Release date for Mario Tennis,
    Release date for Wolfenstein 2,
    Announce South Park game,
Donkey Kong DLC will be made available for Mario+Rabbids,
    New Sonic kart game.

Think they'll save any Metroid trailers and pokemon stuff for E3.

I would love to see a resurrection of F-Zero and Pilot Wings for the Switch. Hopefully most of the direct is not spent talking about stuff we already know such as Mario Tennis and Wolfenstein 2.

I would like to see some decent new third party announcements as well. Maybe Fallout 3 or 4 or something special like Vanquish for the Switch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,067 ✭✭✭Gunmonkey

A few leaks popping up here and there (mainly for Japan so far)
Mario Tennis out June 22 in Japan, a few confirmed char and Joy-con motion control for that Wii Tennis nostalgia (grab those wrist straps)
    Pearl/Marina Amiibo out July 13
New Dillons Rolling Western on 3DS late April

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

I don't know why but I'm hoping for
    1. an apology for Mario Tennis on WiiU
    2. a Switch-exclusive sequel to PN03

There should be an apology in general to Wii U owners.
