Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I was in a grump when I was putting my bike away for the Winter and didn't wash or put any oil on it so as you can see from the pics the chain and cassette are pretty rusted.

I was going to replace the chain and the cassette but do I need to replace the crank as well? There looks to be rust on the inner smaller ring teeth.

I don't race and only use the bike for recreation at the moment.

Crankset will be fine the rust is only surface and probably off the chain. The cassette would probably be alright with plenty of gt85 and a scrub.

    Definitely replace the chain.

Your plan to replace both is a good one though. :)

If you're near Carlow I've a 9 speed cassette and chain you can have for free probably only 200km on them both in vgc

New chain. Soak your cassette in a degreaser and see how it turns out. Crankset should be fine. Worst case scenario is new chain rings.

Cheers everyone, changed the chain and gave the cassette a good scrub and it's come out fine.
