Ethiopian Airlines Safety Record

ET are as safe as any Euro airline.
They passed an IATA audit and are allowed to operate into the EU by EASA.

Try to move away from what I assume is a pre-determined bias against African airlines. They are not some small operation running 30 yr old B737's on short internal hops. They are the 2nd largest carrier on the continent, have a good reputation and are starting to spread their network. They are a significant operator of the B787 and seem to be able to operate this aircraft a lot more reliably than Norwegian International.

    A common sense answer.

They have their heads screwed-on in terms of maintenance, as you'd expect for an airline founded by TWA. Splendid safety record.

They want to become the Emirates of Africa ( or more accurately Emirates copied them and did it faster ) and they know that hinges on maintaining a good reputation.

The only common complaint I read about them is that their published timetable can seem more 'aspirational' than that to which we may be accustomed in Europe. But once the aeroplane turns-up you're in good hands.

A Flight article about Ethiopian's maintenance & repair division.

They do all their maintenance in-house right down to D-check level, with components and support from Lufthansa Technik, and have a number of customers.
