Read on comments on Facebook that Barker & Jones and Boots are going to be the next to go! Struggle to believe that's true, would any of ye be in the loop?

Haven't heard anything, but book shops in any location are surely suffering globally. From ebooks and kindles, to online shopping and better deals with free shipping - it's a real threat to book shops. B&J is a great experience, especially for the kids books which we have bought quite a lot of over the last few years. However, my wife has had to buy approx 15 or so specialist books over the last year- 20 years ago she would've had to order the book from the local store, wait a few weeks for it to come in, then pay a massive premium for it. It's a no brainier when you can buy these online at the best price possible and have it in a few days.

Of the vacant units in the town, they seem to be reopening as hair salons, clothes shops, restaurants, and estate agents - are people doing their practical shopping outside the town where it's more convenient, then using the town for more specialist items? Either way, online shopping has rocked high streets and especially rural towns over the last 15 years, it seems naas needs to offer a service that essentially can't be sold online

Physical book sales are recovering and ebook sales down; so the Kindle threat is subsiding. Online still is a growing issue though.

I don't think anyone is. I only walked by there the other day and, as well well as Donegans, I was just musing as to how they are still open

I think Naas needs to decide what it wants the mainstreet to be.

Do they want it modernized or accept the same old run down street with Euroshops, Charity shops and a load of empty boutiques.

I think Donal's is the type of shop that relies on footfall and passing trade. With the decline in casual shoppers in the town, it can't really survive.

Yep. Around the corner from me :)

I curious why a new hairdressers is opening is beside the Credit Union where Prout’s clothing store was

The main street alone must have 5-10 hairdressers and barbers.

    Same shit, Different day

Could anyone tell me the address for the local Heath office in naas to return drug payment scheme forms to. Google gives me several different addresses from poplar house and craddockstown to vista and millennium road just want to make sure it doesn't get lost in a random pile somewhere. Thanks

Ive got Virgin Media which is fine. Might have an issue for a few hours, two or three times a year

    Hi Tyson,

Vigin Media is a good service
I can help you with more information

  • Registered Users Posts: 617 ✭✭✭cunnijo

It will depend on where in Naas you are living in. While Virgin is good there is the option of fibre to the home available in some parts with speeds starting at 150mb up to 1000mb. Most of the main companies are offering this with the exception of Vodafone (who are part of SIRO - joint venture with the ESB). Enter your eircode in this link to confirm availability.

    https://www.eir.ie/broadband/1000mb-fibre/

So there are options worth having a look at.

    Hi Folks

I am looking to employ a carer in the Naas areas for an elderly lady who needs support with shopping cleaning, and assisting with showering. I have tried 4 agencies and no luck as they cant recurit carers either.

If anyone know of a local lady who is trustworthy etc then please let me know as am really struggling to find someone.

Is it back yet? I've been out all day but I rang irish water (this morning) and the water was gone in Millbank, and he told me that they'd had a call from the hairdressers and the florist in sallins. So a pretty wide area.

We have water at the moment, but it's looking pretty cloudy - is it related?

Same here. Came back just after 1pm.

Seems there was an issue up near the reservoir so I'd day that's why it took so long for the cloudy water to get down to here

The guy from Irish water told me that when the water returned the pressure was likely to be low at first, and also to let it run for 10 mins or something, because the water could be cloudy at first. The water was just a trickle when I left today at near lunchtime - I haven't been home yet.
