Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Philips 3305 DVDR

    Hi folks,

For reasons too numerous to discuss, I found myself in need of a DVD player. I was given a 2005 Philips 3305 DVD recorder which had unspecified 'issues'.

A quick Google shows that these things are a total disaster and should have been buried in a deep hole; nonetheless, it's what I'm stuck with at the moment.

The problem is that it reports disks as 'Unknown disc' and cleaning the laser made no difference. It uses what appears to be a standard DVD RW drive with the usual power & IDE connectors plus terminator jumper. I didn't have an RW unit handy, but I put in a regular DVD ROM drive from a 2005 Dell, which is fine as I have no wish to record. It now plays audio CDs, but reports regular commercial DVDs as 'Unknown' (seems to have dropped the word 'disc' for some reason).

I know that time spent on this will be bitterly regretted on my deathbed, but does anyone have any suggestions? Apart from the obvious ones involving high explosives, steam rollers, trebuchets, etc.
