Hello, I am visiting Ireland this summer.

I have an ATM/Visa Debit card from my American bank with a magnetic stripe (no chip).  I've been told that in order to use this card to get cash in Irish banks, it must have a chip.  Is this true at Bank of Ireland?

    Thank you,
    Ayn

My US debit cards work fine in all ATMs in Ireland.

    Hi Ayn,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

Bank of Ireland ATMs accept the majority of cards and this would include Visa. Where the card does not have Chip and PIN, the machine will read the magnetic strip.

We hope you have a lovely visit to Ireland this summer.

    Thanks
    Tara
