On the face of it... it definitely does seem a lot for a W124... it must be pristine. I have noticed that w124’s have absolutely shot up...

I can’t seem to find out how many w124’s were done by Carat Duchatelet? I had not heard of them... from their website they are coachbuilders so i assume they did no engine upgrades etc so it is all cosmetic upgrades?

I do remember seeing recently 4starclassics in London had a metallic red 1992 300ce 24v with 140,000miles Carat Duchatelet edition that had oz wheels... for £10,995 but it was sold within weeks..

They were basically just a bigger version of the 1100's, but never looked as appealing. Never really took off sale's -wise either, and you could pick them up fairly cheap. Having said that, they were a comfortable enough car due to the hydro-static suspension, which was pretty good for those times. The next door neighbour had one, and he got a good few years out of it, was the same colour too.

Hydrolastic suspension was OK until it gave trouble. Usual thing was guys replacing it and using citroen fluid to top it up, then the trouble really started.
Wrong fluid, and over pressurising it.

Proper manufacturers fluid, and right pressure, then job done.

Yes that used to happen all right. But for the time that was in it, they were ahead suspension-wise. It was a really comfortable car to travel in, and they were cheap to buy. But like I said, they never really took off like the smaller 1100 Version.. I am probably looking back now through rose-coloured spectacles, but no doubt, if I had to work on one again... a different set of memories would appear !!!:cool::cool:

In the space of about 18 months or 2 years this has been reduced from €15k to 4k. It has been up so many times, people are so used to seeing it etc, that it has only gotten 30 views in 5 hours on this occasion

Seems like a bit of a bargain if its your thing (it is very much my thing I might add)

They were Shyte when new , but I hear he’ll take 2.5 k for it, well at least he would have last year , so he might take 2 now.

An elderly friend of mine was tempted , so Yeah I sat in it ,it was absolutely perfect a year ago a real time warp car never out in the elements previously , I had no desire to drive it, if it’s been out in the elements it might have deteriorated a bit since, as those pics are a year or 2 old, but he’ll defo take an offer.

I saw it a few weeks ago, trapped in behind a rake of other cars. Looks like it hasn't moved in a long time and a quick look at it gave the impression that it's a lot less tidy than the images. (I wasn't there for it, honest!)
The guy is down a Lane in old barn, opposite the square.

Throw in an offer, it's going nowhere otherwise.

As an aside, my father had an 1800 version of that in the mid '70's for a few years. We went to France twice in it without a problem. Massive space in them and very comfy. He replaced it with a GS Citroën and regretted it almost immediately. We preferred the Crab.

Until I actually see the car it wouldn't be fair to say too much, but I think this guy is selling a reasonable 260E with a fiberglass kit attached. I think he is asking twice its value. I will go and look next week.

That was bought by a lad in Limerick (nice fella), who put it up on DoneDeal almost straightaway (he dabbles in UK classic car imports). I checked it out, and it was in great condition. Clean underneath too. We agreed a price, and he was to go off and VRT it. In the meantime, he changed his mind, so the deal fell through. He still has it I think - it's been seen at Limerick cars 'n' coffee a few times. Still on UK plates :pac:

TBH, I thought the Duchatelet thing was tacky. Light cream interior with burgundy piping, and white instrument dials with italic writing. But apart from that, the car was super.

ah its a small world eh, i thought i had seen one very like it on donedeal at one stage alright, so that was the same car... its funny some of the Carat By Duchatelet cars have both exterior and interior done and others only have exterior and wheels done etc.... clearly they had different packages you could get... i wonder did the cars go to them to get done? or were these items fitted at the Mercedes dealers...

There is a w126 1000SEL on ebay... its funny i like the interior but i don't like the styling package by them... i think it takes away from the car. The price tag is eye watering by this classic Mercedes Specialist..

This car belongs to a relation of mine, inherited it as part of an estate, new NCT (12th June) and drives well.

Really don't want to see it going to the crusher as it's decent, 5 years away from the holy grail of €56 tax. Not the most appealing merc I know.

That was up for sale about 4 years ago for ages for €1200-1500. No takers. I wanted it but was abroad at the time. Just shows how much prices for them have risen recently. It's possibly a UK import going on the reg, or else a very late 1991 reg.

It was up a month or two ago also, for cheap. To be fair though it looks like the seller has done a great job of recommissioning it

That's a fine little car with a great engine. Only thing wrong with that car is the road tax!

    Yes, the tax is a bit steep @ €951. Still, say 2 years tax = €1902 + purchase price €500 =€2402.00
2 years motoring for less than €2'500.00 is not bad by any standard. Insurance of course is something else.....better to check about the insurance first, before thinking about the purchase. Its a nice car, and in good condition overall. As the OP says, it would be a crying shame if it was to be scrapped or crushed.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

It's not 2 years though, is it? 4-4.5 years means another EUR4k or so in motor tax. Unless you put it in storage, which for most of us is expensive too.

Yes that's true, if you are calculating it for 4 years, but my point is based only on 2 years motoring tax inclusive for less €2500, is not bad going. And if you were happy with it, then extend it year by year until vintage tax kicks in. Still reasonable priced motoring for 4 years. Sure you can get cars with less tax, but higher purchase price, so it's swings and roundabouts, except that this is a Mercedes, and a good one. Friend of mine has one of them, 1.8 petrol. It's a 1995 model, and he has had it since 2000,only thing that went in was the handbrake cable. He has mega miles done in it, and its his daily driver. So a great car to have.

Lovely machines, I saw C220 and was all over it, until I remembered there was also a c220 petrol. (if it was the diesel I'd have it in a heartbeat)

That looks great for under 5k.

A rare classic ad with a valid NCT. Those seats look so comfy. Velour!

I swapped mine (not near as clean as the above obviously) for a Ssangyong Rodius!

The seats are indeed very comfy. Probably the best I’ve ever sat in. They would make a great office chair if they weren’t so bulky

But in them days (2015 I think..) nobody wanted a 3.0i automatic guzzler, and I had a man paying very good money for Rextons for export..so it was a no brainer really

Princess Magaret ( RIP) had a Scimitar, if I remember rightly, and so they had Royal Patronage. ( doubt that the one in the pic is it though...... :)
